I am a Medical Laboratory Scientist, which I think is the same thing as a CLS.

I have been in my job for a little over 7 and a half years. I work in a public hospital lab in the departments of Microbiology, Serology and Molecular Diagnostics, and I love it! 🙂

I have wanted to be a MLS since high school. In 10th grade I did a class called challenge science, and one of the subjects we covered was Microbiology. I absolutely loved it, and from that point knew exactly what I wanted to do for a career. I didn’t want to be a doctor… I wanted to be behind the scenes, in the lab, doing the testing.

I am very happy with my pay. At my level, I get $42 an hour. This is much better than the pay rates of our private counterparts.
