So our low key 45 person wedding being held on Mackinac Island, MI in Oct 2010 needs some help.

We are having a very informal meet and greet the night before the wedding. Let me set the stage. Mackinac Island is a historic island located between the Upper and Lower Peninsula of Michigan. There are no cars allowed on the Island. Everything is horse and buggy, walking or riding bicycles. All the homes are historic colonial type houses with grand hotels and bed and breakfast's doting one side of the Island while the rest of the Island is left to its natural habitat. The "main drag" is hotel after hotel and B&B after B&B with restaurants and gift shops in between.

The B&B that we have booked our rooms with is on the main drag and has agreed to host our meet and greet (not having a formal rehearsal). We want people to feel free to roam the B&B along with wandering OUTSIDE to the shops and just general sightseeing. With that said, we want to serve foods easy to eat and that are "fall" in theme. We also plan on having beer for them to grab and go as they wander down the road and enjoy Lake Michigan's wonderful sunset.

Ideas? I don't think we have much table space for eating messy foods but I could be wrong. Can you think of any easy to eat dinner type food? I know we're going to do some already made smores for a fall dessert but that's all I know so far....

Sorry for being so long winded.

Hmm. I don't know if this is too informal for you, but I'm thinking a crockpot full of chili or squash soup? I know if it were us, we'd have our favorite butternut squash curry. I'm thinking since it's fall foods, squash and chili are big? Maybe a baked potato bar? Bar B Que?

How about hot apple cider for a beverage, and some baked apples, or apple crisp or something as a dessert?

I was about to suggest butternut squash soup - or a butternut squash risotto yummy!  The apple cider sounds delicious too, you can do a alcoholic and non alcoholic version.  A beer cheese soup would be good too.

Some type of meatballs that can be eaten with party picks would be good. So would baked mac n' cheese balls.

There's some good ideas on this site like 'apple sausage bundle' and 'pumpkin hummus' and 'warmed cranberry brie'
