Is your FI somehow my BIL that I just don't know about???
I get that you want to involve FSMIL but depending on your relationship with your FMIL, I would let your FI handle FSMIL 100%. Just take his lead on EVERYTHING. If he doesn't want FSMIL involved at all, let him make that decision. If FI doesn't want her in the program, let him make that decision, etc. STAY out it!! This is coming from experience.
Good thing that your FI knows how his dad can be. Just be yourself during the visit and if they don't like you they don't like...all that really matters is that your FI does. AND it seems like the dad has little impact on your FI.

My FI and I have been together for almost 6 years and ive never met his dad. He says its because of how far away his dad lives and what a jerk he can be. Well the big day is coming and im getting scared. scared about meeting some family members of his but excited about the wedding. I hope he likes me if not i guess the plus side is that he lives far away. His dad lately has been upset with my FI and i because we havent been in close enough contact with his dads wife. My FI has told me the story. when he was 13 his dad started cheating on his mom. the dad divorced his mom when he was 15 so the dad could marry the "OTHER WOMAN" many years later Fi dad is still married the that woman. I dont want to step on my fi mothers toes by getting the other woman too envolved. but yet i sort of want to envolve her a little and make her feel included.
what to do?
