JCrew makes some pretty slate/pewter dresses. Melissa Sweet is kind of expensive for some girls....
We wore Melissa Sweet Vineyard Collection dresses for my friend's wedding recently! I am definitely not a stick figure model, so here you go. Sorry I don't have any better pictures but you can get the idea. These dresses were in the Pewter color.
@mascara - Thank you so much! Those photos are exactly what I was looking for. Needed to see some of these dresses on real people. That's the exact color dress I'm looking for. Dumb question - do you think you'll ever wear it again??
I love those dresses! I"m going to Priscilla of Boston tomorrow to try on some Melissa Sweet/Vineyard dresses, and I'm excited to see how awesome they look on real people!
@PetiteCupcake I think I'll wear it again at some point! Maybe to a holiday party? It was really comfortable and I don't think it screams "bridesmaid's dress", so I hope to wear it again. Plus, it was sort of expensive so I'd like to get my money's worth out of it :)
One suggestion though to anyone interested in these dresses...make sure you are sized correctly! Not one of our dresses fit correctly. Mine had to be taken in because it literally fell off of me, while one girl actually had to have material added because she couldn't zip it up. I'm hoping we were just sized incorrectly and it's not that their dresses are inconsistently sized, but I figured I should warn you either way.
My Bmaids are going to wear a Vineyard dress too
(style 1151 http://www.priscillaofboston.com/dress_detail.jsp?gid=620&sfid=51174&f=)
and they get a 15% discount since my wedding dress is Priscilla of Boston. We went to the store and tried them on - the quality is fine, not amazing, but it's $160 as opposed to the $280 that I paid for my sisters Watters Bmaid dress that looks terrible and is bad quality. Also, I think $160 is a little cheaper than Jcrew or Ann Taylor, the quality might not be as good, but for a dress they're probably never going to wear again I think it's fine. I think the Melissa Sweet dresses are more expensive than Vineyard, but they are more involved designs. Sorry for the complex price analysis - I'm up to my eyeballs in Bmaid dresses right now!
@moderndaisy- were the dresses $160 after the 15% discount, or before? I'm assuming after..?
I'd assume after? I think we paid about $180-$190 each for our dresses. We bought them at Bella Bridesmaid in Chicago.
@moderndaisy - I see you're in Philly too. Did you go to the POB store in Ardmore? I am probably getting my wedding dress elsewhere, but they said that they'd give a "courtesy 10% off" to my bridesmaids anyway if we purchased them there.
I am now leaning toward the Vineyard dresses too. When I went to the store just to browse, I checked out some tags and they are definitely more reasonable than Melissa Sweet. All the ones I looked at were under $200.
My bridesmaids are wearing vineyard style 1515 and they all absolutely love it! I thought the quality seemed really nice. I was looking at other dresses, Alfred Angelo, and the quality is far superior. Plus the dress I chose was only about $40 more than the Alfred Angelo. My mom paid some towards each dress. I think with tax they were $199, my girls got a 10% discount because I have more than 6 girls. Here is the link to the dress online http://www.priscillaofboston.com/dress_detail.jsp?gid=620&sfid=51165&f=. I am posting a pic below of me trying it on. It is a little snug on me because it was a size to small.
my girls wore them in navy blue, but different styles. be warned though, they took about 5 months to come in.
I didn't do a lot of comparison shopping- I had my heart set on Vineyard dresses from the beginning (I also am getting them at Bella in Chicago). But, from what I saw, there isn't anything about the Melissa Sweet dresses that would justify the $75 to $100 price difference over the Vineyard ones. They are really similar in styles/colors.
I think it sort of depends on what you think your girls are ok with spending. I was aiming for under $200, and the ones I picked were $188. I am actually covering a portion of them so my girls are only paying $150. With a BM who is out of work, and another who has 2 kids, I thought it would be really unfair to ask them to spend more than that- especially with shoes, hair, makeup, etc. I want them to look great, but I also know they have other priorities and things to spend money on other than my wedding :).
My bridesmaid's are wearing MS326. They are gorgeous in person...wayyyyy better than on the website. but here's a link to them:

FutureMrsMorgan 5 months to come in??? This is making me really nervous. I have to get these girls on the ball. I wonder if the Vineyard dresses will take that long too...
Anyone interested in a Melissa Sweet Stlye MS215 size 20 in French Blue? We were allowed to pick out our style dress as long as it was in the french blue, so if you're interested in another style ( I can always check with the other bridesmaids to see if they are interested in selling. Worn for a wedding in May.
I was on my way to the store to look at the 1308, which I had my heart set on before going into the bridal shop. When my sister tried it on, it was Okay... but then she tried on the 1515 and we both LOVED it! Do you think it's alright if we go with a dress that doesn't look too bridemaid'ish? Is it a little too out there?? I'm just second guessing myself, although I LOVE THE DRESS!!!!!! Plus we are having a sept 25th wedding, where it might be a little too summery for a fall wedding. PLEASE HELP!
For anyone who is interested, MS/PB ONLY take 3-4 months. Most of the time it's only 3 months. They do come in early, but not all the time. Werever you go should be able to let you know the absolute latest they will be in. Don't stress, it doesn't take 5 months. ;-)
and btw, they are gorgoeus in person.
Hey! I have bridesmaids dresses by Melissa Sweet and the mother of the groom got a Melissa Sweet dress to wear to the wedding as well. Here is a pic! We love them, and the color we got them in is a light peachy pink.

I'm loving the short Melissa Sweet bridesmaid dresses! We're doing a slate gray/pewter color with the girls carrying blue hydrangeas. My only worry is that of course these dresses look great on the stick figure models, but wanted to see if anyone had photos of their girls in them in real life?? :) Thanks!
