Hey, bees! I know you guys love sharing info and scouring the internet! My husband is in the market for a new wedding band due to an allergy. He is looking for a 5 mm plain platinum band. The lowest I have found so far is on Blue Nile for $850.
Anyone find a better deal?

bump for the daytime crowd!

$850 actually sounds cheap to me — platinum is EXPENSIVE! It’s ridiculous.

Can he wear palladium? They tend to come a little cheaper.

Or what about tungsten carbide?

What finger size does he need and does he want a plain domed or flat wedding band?
Here is a 5mm domed platinum ring: http://www.debebians.com/5mmplmewerid.html
& here is a 5mm pipe cut platinum ring: http://www.debebians.com/5mmplmewerip.html
The price changes depending on the finger size…there is a drop down menu that shows you the price difference.
They also have beveled edge and knife edge rings on the site if he wants that instead.
Good luck and let us know what he gets! 🙂
Edit: We bought my engagement ring, wedding band, and my fiance’s platinum band from this company. His ring features a high polish and a brush finish. I included the pic of it for you.

100% platinum and not just platinum coated is VERY expensive. my class ring was 100% platinum [back in 2003] and it cost me over 3k then.

That seems like a great price for platinum. We will probably order from http://www.e-weddingbands.com/store/platinum_wedding_bands.html Many pricescopers use it for their plain bands, and good luck finding a more discerning crowd when it comes to rings!

H’s was $1800 for a 4mm flat cut platinum ring from Tiffany.

I used this seller on eBay, they were great, super fast shipping and incredibly reasonable. my e-ring and wedding band are platinum and some prices I saw were outrageous, and DH spent so much on my e-ring I decided I wanted a plain platinum band to go with it, plus I had trouble finding a band to fit with it, I have a radiant center stone a little over 2ct so it was hard to find a band to fit.
Anyway, I highly recommend them, they were less than half the price of most of the places I went and I got the band checked, it’s certified.
DJjewelry is the store. Don’t know what size your FI is but they range in price for the half round (domed) between $504-$698.
They also have free engraving, and the first time there was a small error (part of the engraving was supposed to read S ♥ S, something we always write. They engraved S ♥ S ♥). They immediately corrected it AND refunded my original shipping charge without my asking. They were great with customer service.

My husband’s ring is an ArtCarved ring, in 14k gold. We looked at the platinum, but it was over $1,000 more expensive, totally almost $2,000. So, yeah, I’d say 800 is a pretty sweet deal for platinum.

@jenilynevette: Just FYI, the vast majority of platinum jewelry is made out of 95% platinum, 5% something else (iridium, ruthenium, etc). Just so the OP doesn’t think she’s getting screwed by not getting 100% platinum!

Thanks for all the responses!! He wants a dome style band, 5 mm. thick. He already has one that is tungsten, and he was getting rashes from it. I did a little research and found out that it does have a bit of nickel in it… which is what he is allergic to. Definitely not looking for something just for the name (ie: Tiffany), just want something he won’t be allergic to but still looks smooth and shiny! The nickel band he got is all scratched up after wearing it for one month!!
If it’s not 100% platinum… It’s okay as long as there is no nickel in it!
I will check out all the sites/sellers you guys have mentioned! Thank you!!!

I like Blue Nile – I have purchased 2 rings from there (not wedding rings) but we plan on getting ours bands from there as well. I think my SO would prefer a 6mm band, but he is a 4mm in the LOW DOME style that we both love. It’s $860
