Well it says that his ring finger has to be longer than his index finger, not yours. But I think it is really silly. Like when people say that if a woman's second toe is longer than her big toe, then she is controlling. That is sooo not true.
haha no about that toe thing - my big toe is the biggest, but i am definately controlling :P
That sounds crazy. Unless somehow that means that he has some other things going on like a high testosterone or something I don't see the connection.

The only way I could ever see that having a shred of truth is if it was an indicator of a certain gene. I know that the drive towards monogamy is actually partially genetic, but as with all genetics, that doesn't preclude environment, free will, etc. Many people have a genetic predisposition for schizophrenia but never develop it. This is not to say I believe it, because a lot of pseudoscience quacks go around saying thing like the pattern of hair on a horse's head determine its temperament. I'm just trying to see how it could be feasible.
Of course, anyone who made a blanket statement like Dr. Phil did (as you posted) clearly doesn't understand science.
That smacks of BS. "Dr." Phil sounds like he doesn't know what he's talking about.
My family has something simlar, where one thumb is slightly shorter and wider than the other. Back in the 1800s they called it "Murderer's Thumb" and said it indicated a propensity to murder and conduct a life of crime. An old wives tale, just like "Dr." Phil's.
I heard Dr. Oz saying that if the ring finger was longer than the middle finger it meant the man had a lot of testosterone. That sounds more reasonable to me than the guy would be a cheater.
Dr. Phil is terrifying. Turn off the tv and back away slowly. If you don't look at him, he'll eventually go away.

Haha, well true or not we had fun looking at all our coworker's hands yesterday!! Though it was pretty true for our office. I'm guessing it is not true in general though.
just food for thought - this isnt actually an old wives tale - it came from a study that stated that men with a longer ring finger actually have more testosterone than other men - hence their propensity to want to spread their seed, aka cheat.
it was statisitcally INsignificant, but people quote it all the time as gospel.
The longer ring finger is bc of higher exposure to testosterone in the womb. It's also been linked in studies to better math skills and bigger penises. Doesn't necessarily mean anything either way...

this is crap! (I will admit I just looked at my fingers at my left hand looks the same but my ring looks slightly longer on my right, ah! haha)
Haha Dr. Phil cracks me up. I'm a nanny, and the toddler I watch sleeps for an hour while dr. Phil is on. It is hilarious. Also he was planning on coming here to Australia, but the goverment wouldn't let him call himself Dr. Phil, because he isn't a 'real' doctor. Mr. Phil doesn't have the same ring to it does it? :-P

Oh my. I gasped when I read this. Where on earth does this come from? I don't think the habit of cheating manifests itself physically.
Although, if it did, wouldn't we women be better off?
I could see the testosterone one maybe, but not the cheating one! And I'm with you, my ring finger is way longer!

Haha! Wow, I became curious so I looked up the paper he may have been referring to... and what i found is a paper in PNAS linking succesful stock traders with longer ring fingers. Also, a related study with macaques on social hierarchy! pretty interesting. Nothing about cheating though.
This show, Manswers (yea I'm not kidding, we watch it LOL) said the one "sure-fire" way to tell if the girl you went home with is really a dude without her taking her clothes off is to check if their ring finger is longer than their index. UMMM MINE IS! It just means you have higher testosterone. I have PCOS which indicates higher than normal testosterone levels but I am NOT A DUDE! LOL! I hate that kind of stuff.
yeah, that's pretty weird and a very lame way to point out the cheaters.
My ring finger = way way longer than my index finger. I also have PCOS. I'm also a tomboy.

I did not watch the episode but I heard on the radio that on a Dr. Phil cheating episode it was said that:
you can tell if he's going to be a cheater by looking at his hands. If his ring finger is longer than his index finger then he is prone to cheating.
I am not a man but my ring finger is def waaaay longer than my index finger. What do you all think about these types of studies, I personally things its a little 'nonsense'. Or how many of you are going to go look at every males hand now?
btw.. the test sounds cookoo to me
