I don’t think you need a menu card, perhaps one at the buffet is enough…

Most of the buffet receptions I’ve been to have not put out any menu cards.  Usually you found out when you got up to get your food.

If you want to have something out, I think a sign at the buffet table or one per table would suffice.

I’m a picky eater so I would like to know what is at the buffet before I actually go up and get food. That way I don’t waste time reading all the descriptions up there and I don’t waste food taking things I might not end up liking :p

I think two per a table is plenty.

I think having them at the table/setting might make the buffet line move faster.  If you can’t afford it or rn out of time, skip it or just make one sign at the buffet.

I think menu cards are more beneficial at a buffet than a plated meal. With a plated meal, you get whatever is automatically placed in front of you so a menu card doesn’t serve much purpose. With a buffet, guests can read it over after they find their seats but before they go up to fill their plates. That way, they know what is available and what to avoid for any reason. It makes the lines go much quicker, which many people complain about is a key factor as to why they hate buffets, and takes out the guesswork of what each dish is, again one of the factors that cause traffic jams. In that case, I would have one menu per person.
