maybe just a 2 framed menus at each side of the tables so guests know what they are being served. i've only been to 1 buffet reception and as as i guest i would've liked to know what we were havin for dinner.....or maybe a larger menu placed at the start of each side of buffet line.
Wow, that is a considerate idea. Maybe have one printed up for each table, in the same stock and font as your invitations? To make it look fancy. I think many people would at least look at it, and appreciate seeing what was there before hand. Sometimes it's hard to know what (or how much) to put on your plate when you don't know what else is down the line. then your guests don't like much, they can load up on the ziti. Or if everything looks good, they can make sure just to take a taste of each.
And if printing the menu professionally is too much, maybe you could just throw in a slip of paper with the invitations. Or just one larger menu, framed right in front of the dining room doors? or near the guest book?
Thanks gals! I know when I worked for a caterer, we put one at the beginning of the buffet line but I found a cute idea on Etsy that would be nice if menu is added and placed on the Escort card table. I've attached it for you to see. Of coarse I'm making them myself. I can be pretty crafty when it comes to paper stuff---thinking about selling on Etsy too!
Yea, that would be great to have a menu on each table...so you can anticipate what yummy stuff you are getting ready to eat! Plus, signs on the table may be blocked by people in line and it may be hard to see. So this would be a really nice thing to do for your guests.
I am having a buffet style reception and I am not having menu cards. It will be a waste of my time and knowing my family and friends and those of my FI, they will eat whatever it is we serve and they really won't care about menu cards. It may be one of those last minute projects that you really wish you didn't need to worry about. Every wedding I have been to before (and there has been alot), I never paid attention to the menu card OR I got excited about the menu because of what the card said and the food was horrible. It's not really all that important.
We are having buffet style too (since our venue cannot serve plated as the kitchen is on the main level and they would have to carry each plate up the stairs to the 2nd level individually). I like the idea of Menu cards at each table too. Plus it gives another excuse to display the great stationery again and adds more the each table!
I'm having a buffet and I hadn't even thought about this yet (gasp!). You girls have great ideas though! I'll think I'll put a framed menu in the buffet table, and maybe print it in the programs too since the reception is in the same place as the ceremony, I don't know if everyone will sit down before they get something to eat!
MayGrad, thanks for starting this topic. I am having a buffet and have been wondering the same thing about menus!
I'm having a buffet and I'm thinking about printing the menus for each guest too. I have a number of foodie friends who are going to want to know what they're getting before they get to it. I think it is nice to know before the guest gets in line. I know I love looking at menus in restaurants and it could be another keepsake (for only a few probably). I'm just using my handy-dandy inkjet printer with the design we used for our invitations (Gocco and inkjet printed). Plus I like how the napkins look when they are folded in a way as to be a pocket for the menu.
We're having a buffet, and I'm thinking about menus, too! There's a ton of options for our food, so it would be good to highlight them. Menus also can double as placecards, and with our really long tables I think I'm going to have to assign each individual seat.
I'm glad you posted this! I too am having a buffet reception and I haven't really thought of what to do with menu cards! Having one on each table is a great idea! I am thinking of having cute little place cards in front/below each food tray. With all the buffets I've been to I always end up wondering or guessing what the food is in front of me. I'm sure it'd be helpful to guests to have a little place card below the food so they know what it is! It wouldn't slow up the buffet line either!
I've been mulling this over, too.
We're having a brunch/lunch reception so I was actually thinking of a way I could include the ceremony program and the menu on some sort of "morning newspaper" thingy.
...that's as far as I've gotten with that idea, though.
thanks for posting this. I plan on also having a buffet. and will be having menu cards 1 per table like this pic
I love the idea of the menu on each of the tables. I hadn't really thought about it this way I was just going to put on in front of the line. I'm thinking I might do both since my wedding is food based more than anything else. Thanks for the ideas though I think I'm going to contact the restaurant manager and ask her if they have food signs themselves.
Quick question -- what are you putting on the menu cards to specify that it's a buffet-style meal? "Buffet Menu" at the top, maybe?
We are having stations; so I was planning on having categories like "Pasta Station," "Carving Station," "Salad Station," then listing out the food items below. My fiance and I are total foodies, so I am definitely doing menus. Yum!

Should I place a menu on the receptions tables since I'm having buffet style reception?
