I just wonder if i would look ok with a bigger size. This is 2 sizes to small. I was lucky enough to find something to squeeze in. Im wondering if it was my size. Would this dress style look ok?

Im getting lots of No from family... boo maybe if i loose 20-30 lbs im def still loosing but its slow.

The dress is the style i want but im looking at a diff dress

I think it looks good for a dress that's too small - I actually think a sweetheart neckline would make it look even better, but that's just me!

What's important, though, is what makes you feel beautiful. I know it's hard when they don't have your size to try on, so maybe try to hunt one down?

I think I would have to see it in the right size to really be sure. Right now it looks like it accentuates your tummy, which may be due to the fact it's too small. I like the idea of the dress, though and the fact hat it gives you awesome curves. Are there any mermaid styles in your size you can try on any where?

eta: I agree wtih the idea of a sweetheart neckline!

I love the style! Very flattering and feminine, and at the same time, sassy! It gives you an hourglass look- i think a sweetheart neckline would be pretty, too! :)

as far as the feedback from your fam goes, remember this is YOUR day, and if you love this style, go with it! You're gorgeous, girl! Flaunt it! :)

I agree with the sweetheart neckline!

And I have to say I'm not liking the dress on you because of the horizontal pleating. I feel like that accentuates the width. It's like they say right, if you want to look like you ahve bigger boobs wear horizontal striping. If you want to look slimmer wear vertical stripings.

I think mermaid/trumpet CAN look good. I'm just not loving the horizontal pleating of this particular dress.

P.S. CONGRATS on all the weight loss!!!

I know what it's like being a plus size bride... what if you got something similar to the mermaid. I know that sounds funny, but insterad of it going down to the knee... have it go to the hip, that's what I did at least.

The dress looks great and would look even better in your size.   I wish luck with the weight loss.. it has to be exciting.  :)

Congrats on the weight loss! I love the dress but it's hard to tell how it will look when it doesn't fit you properly. Right now, I don't think it's the most flattering of dresses, which may be because it's too small for you. But if you really love it, then go for it! All that matters is what you think.

I think both are fab dresses and you could pull it off.  It doesn't help that the sample was two sizes too small, but I think the right size would make all the difference.

I feel like you should look into trumpet dresses. They are a lot like a mermaid but with a less snug fit on the bottom.  I personally think you look pretty good in that dress but I do not think the ruching is helping you at all because it is creating horizontal lines.

First off, you look amazing! I don't see "lots of hanging skin" at all. You're beautiful! I think the dress looks great on you, but like some of the other commenters, I'd be curious to compare it to a trumpet style without the horizontal ruching. I don't think the ruching is bad at all, I just think I might have a bit of a bias because I'm also plus size and always try to avoid horizontal stripes of any variety. At any rate, you're so beautiful that I'm sure no matter what you pick, you'll look great!

I agree with your family. However, you really are beautiful... it's just that this gown doesn't flatter your figure.

someone else mentioned it already i definately like this direction you are going in with your dress. but i would like to see the flaire come out a little higher, closer to your hips and then it wil be fabulous! absolutely fierce on you!

I tried on a mermaid sweetheart that was two sizes too big, and I'm bigger (I'm a dress size 22 or 24)! It really did look great on me, once it was all clipped, so I think if it was in your size it would make a world of difference!

Oh, btw, the flair started closer to my hip bones than down on my thigh, and I found that made a huuuuge difference in it looking good. Seriously, I almost bought it (and secretly, still kinda wish I had)! We have a really similar shape, you and I!

Honestly, I'm not a fan of mermaid styles on full-figured women.  IMO, the dress just doesn't flatter your body type, and accentuates the wrong areas.  I think you can definitely find something that's more figure-flattering.  I think something like this would look amazing on you... it would make your waist look tiny and your boobs look awesome!  :)

As another plus sized bride myself with a mermaid dress (w/vertical lines), I love your dress! Yes, it looks a little tight, but I think in your size, it will look awesome. It nips and tucks your curves in, give you a smaller waist and with a sweetheart neckline, it'll be amazing! My 2nd choice dress was sort of similar so maybe I'm biased, but I think it gives us a nice shape! The ruching helps, it's not horizontal lines, its ruching!

BTW, my FI happened to pass by while I was looking at your pic and he said you looked cute and liked the dress, so there's a male vote 4 u!

I love the dress it looks great over your hips!  Very curvy!  I am plus size too about the same size as you dress shopping was a challange.  The question I have is how does it look on you butt?  I am worried about how dress is going to look on mine since the dress I tried on was 4 sized to small.  I don't want to look like the lady in the movie Steel Magnolias where the she is dancing and they said "it looks like two pigs fighting under a blanket".

No matter what you will be beautiful!

I think you can do a mermaid style dress, you have a little waist, nice shape. I don't see any sag, you are very cute, happy!!  That said, there is something about that particular dress that I don't like.  It may well be the neck line as some other Bees have pointed out.  O, I know about making a decision when the dress is a few sizes too small....

I think a different kind of mermaid dress would look better on you.  One that just had fabric all the way down.  The problem with the current dress in my opinion is that it has the horizontal line where the fabric stops right above the knees.  And then it changes direction from that point down.  If the fabric was all one piece it would look better in my opinion.  Look for different styles of mermaids or trumpets.

A mermaid dress can look good on anyone, full-figured or not. What makes a mermaid dress work is a person's shape, rather than their size.

I would suggest a trumpet dress that flares out at the hip, with less fabric and straight lines (maybe some princess seams?). I think this would create a better balance between the top and bottom. I would avoid ruching of any kind below the hip.

Also, from one plus sized person to another, I was surprised that ruching didn't do anything for me, either... it's usually presented as the Great Answer to wedding dresses, but sometimes, it's just too much fabric.

So, I don't really like this dress style on anyone (no matter the size), but that's just me. Given that I think it looks as good on you as it does on anyone. I don't even think you look particularly large. Congrats on the weight loss.

OMGoodness.  You are gorgeous!  I like the dress, and I agree with an above poster saying you should try a sweetheart.  I think it would accentuate your um...up top assets lol.  As far as the pics you posted earlier, I don't think it does you justice!  Have you looked at a mermaid that flares up a little bit higher?  Regardless, it's up to you and what makes you feel beautfiul.  Good luck!

You look beautiful! I have to agree with the sweatheart neckline. I think the most important factor is how you feel and how comfortable you are.

I'm not exactly loving this.  I think this is a severe mermaid and that a fit and flare would look better.  Also, I've noticed that when the ruching is straight across it's not so flattering.  Try looking for something with the ruching done at a diagonal.  Trust me, I tried on several dresses this weekend and a dress that had the ruching at the diagonal was beyond amazing.  Here's an example.

I think you could find a better dress but again, it yould just be the size. I would suggest going to DB or AA where they have your size, if not to order a dress but to try on a similar style in your size to get a better idea of what it will actually look like on you. Personally, I feel like the mermaid is the hardest dress style to pull off but the second photo you posted looks really good. It's less harsh without the band around the knees and bow and the neckline does a lot for her curves. Also, I second the PP who suggested you look for diagonal ruching instead of horizontal, it really makes a dress more flattering. Horizontal helps give the illustion of hips but you have the real thing so you don't need that.

I already have my dress, but that Pnina is the one I want too!!  I think you posted a photo of it before, and I totally stalked it but alas could find it nowhere (and like I said, I have a dress already!!).  I think the SH neckline will make all the difference in breaking up the fuller-looking horizontal line.  A neckline can usually be altered.  Good luck!

    Hi

Welll done for the weight loss!!

I love the dress and it looks good but i think you can do better.  A sweetheart neckline with an a line skirt would be much more flattering.

Im a plus size too, this is my dress, it nips in at the waist just where i need it :)

Honestly I think in the right size it could look amazing, Could you perhaps go to Davids Bridal and try on one that is a similar cut to give you a better idea?  I will not comment on the lack of sizes in a full figured size (or extremely petite for that matter).  I am a HUGE fan of mermaids on curvy full figured women and I think you'll look stunning in one in your right size.

I agree with ddbee and the dress she chose would look great on you. The combination of shiny, too form-fitting, and horizontal wrinkles is not the best! A floaty soft material would be so lovely.

Yeah the one dress i tryed on was to shiny and i hated the neckline. Im def sweetheart neckline all the way. Thats one question i ask everytime i try on a dress. ( can you make it sweetheart) lol

DD & AA never have bigger sizes in mermaid dresses.

I plan on going to look at dress Angelina by Maggie Sottero Sat. Hopefully i fall in love with that dress.

I like it a lot except for two things: the neckline (sweetheart would be better on you) and the cut-off seems to low, or too severe, or something. But that second problem will probably be remedied when it is in the right size!
