@traceywhite1962:  I am that size and am looking at mermaid styles as well.

I haven’t been able to try any on– just wanted to offer my support! Wear the dress with pride! I’m sure it will look amazing. 🙂

I’m not of similar size, but I was impressed with how slimming the mermaid style was on me. I’m very much a pear shape, but the dress hugging me in those places really showed off the curves I have and didn’t seem to highlight them in a negative way. I’ve seen full-figured gals rock the mermaid cut. So if that’s what you love, go for it!!

I tried one on, and I was stunned at how good it looked. I’m a street size 16 but very hourglass and never thought I could pull that look off. I think it will work better if it’s a corset-back instead of a zip back, so if yours is a zip back, maybe you would be happier if they switch out to a corset back once they start alterations.  Also with a corset back you can relax it a tiny bit after the ceremony and photos are done, to be a little more comfortable (I definitely felt uncomfortable sitting down in that dress).

FWIW I decided against that dress even though I liked it the most, mainly because the overall cut of the dress was a HUGE departure from what I normally wear, and I was worried that I’d be constantly fidgeting with it.

I’m between at 16 and an 18… I know exactly how you are feeling right now! I’m not wearing a mermaid style exactly, but the waist is a lot lower than what I am use to wearing!  I’m kind of freaking out about it right now. I dont feel good about myself, and I’m wondering if I should have went with like.. a big poofy ballgown.

I’m sure once I’m all dolled up on my wedding day with my hair and makeup done, with a veil on, I will end up being super confident.

Sorry for the crappy cellphone picture. But this is the dress I ordrered

I have found a couple threads on here about fuller figured gals in the mermaid/dropped waist style.  It always makes me feel better because they ROCK those dresses.  Let me see if I can find it for you.

I loved my mermaid style dress!  I wore a bridal 16.  Here is mine along with another try on I liked.
