I tried on a few, but I couldn't do it. The proportions were all out of whack for me and I felt a bit too booty-licious for my liking. And because I was trying on little sample sizes, I couldn't do the sit test.
Did you find one you liked? Did you get to try it on?
Nothing in my size:( everythings tiny boo... im on a hunt!
I feel like I've posted this a million times :) But here it is!!! :)
I feel like had I had the option, a trumpet gown would have looked awesome on me.
Soooo frustrating that the sizes to try things like this on give absolutely no indication of what it will look like if it is in our size.
sigh.
Ditto about sizing issues. but here is Alfred Angelo 2047 (almost the one lol)
here is SML9790 from david's bridal
i really wanted to try on la sposa fanal but no one had it in my size so i got pissed and quit dress shopping and bought one preowned (casablanca 1831) and i haven't ever tried it on lol
I'm wearing mermaid! Never thought I would, but it looks fantastic!
Ignore crazy hands, I was talking and my mom would NOT put the camera down.
Wow everyone looks great!! I'd love to see more if any other cuvy gals have any? I cant find any boo!
Mine is a narrow a-line/slight trumpet ... This is me in the sample which was about 3 sizes too big (hopefully when it comes in the shape is right or we can fix it with a few alterations)

Here's mine. I'm having doubts about it...but the dress itself is gorgeous! It's a Mori Lee and RK Bridal had it in my size to try on...

I LOVE your dress Ms. Mini! Where is it from, I am dying to know! Thanks, Nancy. nanimal27@hotmail.com
Well everyone looks great. I finally got to try on a mermaid dress. However the dress was super small on me i justttt fit...
As in previous post. I had gastric bypass and have a lot of hanging skin, mainly arms and my love handle area is all skin soo.. as you can see in the photos.
I just wonder if i would look ok with a bigger size. Honest answers please

BrooklynBride and CreBre, those are some beautiful gowns and they look stunning on you!
So my gown is considered a ballgown now (Melissa Sweet Dora) but it won't be for long. We'll be altering it so it nips in under my tuckus and is more of a trumpet. Here are the pre-alteration photos. I'll post the new ones when we actually get to the alternations.

@OctoberBee - Thank you so much! I think I'll be happier with how I look in it once my corset comes in. The lady at the shop, who I love to death, insisted that I didn't need to wear anything under the gown, that it had plenty of support. But, she's also a size two and probably doesn't know how uncomfortable it is to be bra-less. :p
@TPHoliday - I forgot to mention, I love love love the color of your dress!
everyone look so awesome! i cant wait for mine to come in so i can post a pic or two!
@zhongliqiu - that dress looks A-mazing on you!!! I love the fabric and the sweetheart neckline...kinda jealous! That's the top I was originally searching for. It looks great on you as is...but with the alterations it's going to look VAVAVOOOM hot! :)
Brooklyn Bride, your dress is stunning! Who is it by?
I LOVE mermaid style, I cannot emphaszie that enough. I wish I could wear it, all you ladies look gorgeous, especially BrooklynBride10's Dress! did you go to Kleinfelds? It looked like you did, what company is your dress by? I've been debating going there because...well. Western PA sucks for dresses. :/ Every place has nothing that fits me. They keep having me come back for trunk shows.
It all italicized my font and I can't undo it! D: Sorry!
Here is a picture of me in my trumpet gown. I love it!

@xxMyXxDecemberXx
Hey I got my dress at MB brides in Greensburg. I LOVE THEM! I had Alicia P. as a consultant and she was very helpful. Even though I had to order a sample dress by holding it up in front of me, she helped me pick the right size according to measurements (no alternations needed) and was so nice. I adore my dress and couldn't be happier. They have a pretty nice plus size section that can atleast give you an idea of what style you like best and from there you could hold a dress in front of you for more of a selection. From my experience with trunk shows, they have "sample" sizes. So that may not be your best bet. I would recommend finding a style you like and go from there.
Good luck and don't give up.
Anyone seen pictures of Maggie Sottero's beth dress or tried it on in plus size? I'd love to see it..
If you're a mermaid dress lover, I recommend "Jenna" by Maggie Sottero.
It's not the dress I'm getting because it's a little more modern than the look I was going for, but I'll attach the pic of me in the dress.
I wanna play! The top was a little too big!
@zhongliqiu: I love your dress! I wish I had seen this before :) Mine is also a trumpet but I have no pictures of me in it.
You all look awesome! I am so inspired by this thread. I'm 5'8 and I wear a 14/16 in street clothes and generally have a good grasp of what looks best on me (I wear a lot of dresses as it is)
The dress I want (found online, haven't tried on yet) is an all lace, semi trumpet (I think?) when I always assumed I'd look best in a ballgown or a-line, something with a basque waist maybe. But I love this dress and have been so afraid it won't look right.. now I am hopeful! My biggest concern is that it is all lace (over satin) and if it's stretchy at all it won't be forgiving of my baby-flap belly skin and love handles... my problem areas, that darn "hump" right below my hip bone and a belly that is saggy from pregnancies, saggy even when I am "thin". I'm busty but fairly hourglass shaped so I am still hopeful.
I'm starting to think I can just deal withany issues with some super smoothing undergarment though, and I'm getting more and more excited to think that I might actually get to wear THIS dress. Here's pics (on a model)... what do you predict for this dress on a bigger woman (me?):

I am wearing this....
http://www.davidsbridal.com/Product_Taffeta-Trumpet-with-Button-Back-Detail-SML9790_Bridal-Gowns-Features-Designer-Gowns-Galina-Signature (please note that its on a skinny girl)
But it looks WAY better on someone with curves. And the price was excellent! (Even though I secretly hate Davids Bridal- it was the dress I fell in love with on my body!)
@ crebre80 I tired on that dress too! and I love it!!
I'm 5'3" size 18/20. I think it was SUPER comfy!! I LOVE IT!!
i'm in love with mermaid/trumpet dresses! i find that they tend to provide balance to women who are more pear shaped (contrary to popular belief - ball gowns be damned!) and hourglass shaped. i find them extremely slimming, and yes, it is all about getting the size AND the waistline right! i look a little too bootylicious if the dress is even a teeny bit too smalll or if the waist/body of the dress is too far below my hips (i fall into the pear shaped category and loved the hourglass/slim look from the front, but emphasized booty from the rear view isn't what i am going for). haven't bought my dress yet, but i'm venturing to the crazy Filene's Basement sample sale next Friday hoping to come away with something awesome, but if not, i'll be going to kleinfeld's to order the below:

i feel like if you are self conscious about your tummy area, you may want to go with a dress that has less ruching and is more on the trumpet side because it will end just above your hips and the skirt will help balance you more on the bottom. the lace dress with empire detail and the non-waist i think will look really lovely on you! i would recommend sticking to substantial fabrics as well (silk, satin, heavier lace) as they are made to flatter!
I'll probably be wearing a trumpet dress...I'm a curvy pear/hourglass shape and want something that shows off my body, but is easy to move in. My concern is my waist to hip ratio (22 inch difference and that I'm high waisted). I think a empire or non-waist would suit me better.
I can't wait to try on dresses and definitely looking forward to seeing more of your beautiful pics.
CONGRATS to you all, ~*smooches and blessings*~
