Our wedding is in June, and we’re using emptied (& cleaned) wine bottles laying on their sides with sand in them as centerpieces, with votive candles to make them sparkle. Its a beachy/island themed wedding. We were thinking it would be cool to put little pieces of paper and pens on the tables and encourage guests to leave "messages in a bottle" for us. We aren’t doing a guest book, so this might be a unique way to get notes from our friends and family on the big day.
Has anyone else done something like this? Does it really work? Do you think people would do it? Any ideas to make this really work? Thanks!

I haven’t seen this done but I think it’s a great idea!

Awesome idea! I would encourage you to have your DJ or band leader announce it throughout the evening…that way people will definitely participate 🙂

That sounds like a cute idea! But I must ask – are these wine bottles clear and transparent? Will there be a label on it?
And how do you intend to take out the message and read it?
My FI actually gave me a message in a bottle once as a gift. He filled an empty bottle (clear, transparent, purchased) with some sand, small shells, and some porcelain flowers. He also wrote a message, rolled it up and tied a thread around it. The thread was long enough to hang out of the bottle, and secured by the stopper.. that way, I was able to pull the message out and read his love note!

They are clear with no labels — we took them all off. Ms Tofu, i like the idea of adding the strings! That might be too much work at the wedding though. I think we’ll have fun breaking the bottles and getting the messages long after the fact 🙂
