My FI and I met in the boarding line of a Southwest flight 6.5 yrs ago. This was at the Cleveland Airport. It was the best day of my life. We talked for an hour in the boarding line, flirted, talked about all the things we had in common and then he asked if he could sit next to me on the plane. Of course, I said yes. We talked during the whole flight too and exchanged contact information. My parents were at the airport (in St. Louis where we were both flying to) waiting to pick me up (I was 18 yrs old) and my mom said my FI and I both had cheshire cat grins on and looked so happy! She started to wonder who this guy was that I had met!
We both had grown up 30 minutes apart in the St. Louis suburbs and ended up going to college together. We are now working on our master's in Biology.
Fast forwward to Monday, Dec. 27th, 2010.
I went up to Cleveland with him to finally meet his extended family who still lives there (that's why he was there when we met in the Cleveland airport--I had been visiting my childhood best friend). We had a great time spending Christmas with them and were set to take the same flight we had taken all those years ago when we met.
At the airport, he asked for me to follow him up to the boarding lines where we met. There were a ton of people waiting in the lines. Then the flight attendants announced, "Southwest Airlines Passengers: please direct your attention to the windows at gate B11!" then my FI got down on one knee and the crowds went "AWW". I was touching his shoulder and slightly crying the whole time. After I said yes, the flight attendant announced, "She did say YES! Southwest IS the airline of love! These two met here in the boarding line almost 7 years ago!"
It was the most incredible thing. Only second to the day that I met him.
Southwest uses a heart with wings around it as their company logo so of course I have a ton of pics with my ring and the logo !!
We were the last to board the plane because we were trying to get a picture, so everyone was seated when we walked on. When they saw us, everyone clapped and said congratulations as we walked by! We asked for champaiqne or something from the attendants but they said they didn't have any but that "they were taking care of it" and "getting something". They took down our names and we expected them to come back during the flight with little wings and our names written on a napkin with hearts and some pretzels or something but nothing happened so we STILL have no idea what that may have been about....
When we met, we were sitting next to each other on the plane and the flight attendant gets on the speaker and says, "Welcome to the airline of Love! Reach over to your partner and give 'em a big hug!" so we had our first little hug on the plane.
We found out also, after we met that our birthdays are Jan. 10, and Jan. 11 so we always have a wonderful birthday weekend each year.
I love him more than words can describe. I'm so excited for what the future holds for us.
Thank goodness you were flying Southwest so you could seat yourself right next to him!
What a touching story! :')
