For entertainment, most folks prefer to either socialize or dance rather than other activities.

You can serve Mexican food of your choosing. Dessert options can be tres leches cake, flan, Mexican wedding cookies, etc. Serve fruity frozen drinks (alcoholic and virgin) and/or horchata (nonalcoholic).

Your idea sounds like fun and something your guests will certainly remember.

Perhaps have your dj play a few songs with a Mexico theme. As an example, George Strait’s “Seashores of Old Mexico”.

You could decorate with papel picado and paper flowers. Also, brightly colored fresh flower arrangements would look great.

This wedding has some great ideas…

And I just saw a wedding online yesterday where the escort cards were attached to mini pinatas. So cute! Some other good ideas here…

We had a mariachi band at our reception, and not only did it contribute so well to the atmosphere, it was a huge hit with our guests!  I see your wedding is in Oconomowoc.  Our mariachi band drove an hour from Milwaukee to our reception so I’m sure they’d be willing to drive to yours too.  PM me if you’re interested and I can pass along their rates and contact info.

Besides that, you could do a little taco bar, serve pina coladas, and decorate with a million bright colors.

For cheap decorations you can cut designs into square brightly colored tissue paper and string them together.  Use bright colors everywhere.  I would be a little careful because I think this theme can easily go from fun and festive to tacky

You can use foods grown in mexico or used in their cuisine to decorate like bowls of assorted hot peppers in different colors.

Pineapples

I am having a Mexican-themed reception and will be using Mexican banners like photographed above to decorate overhead. Then I am using Mexican serape as table runners and mexican ceramic tile as our table numbers. I am also using assorted paper flowers to decorate around the area. I want the area to look bright, vibrant and colorful, just like a fiesta!

We will be serving Mexican food along with Sangria and Margaritas. For dessert, we will be serving Tres Leches cake, chocolate-dipped churros, and Mexican wedding cookies among others.

@Ezastrow: My wedding is before yours so I’ll have pictures to share by the time yours comes around. If you’re interested, I can even sell you the table runners once I’m done with them.

Laterns like these are very rustic mexican, and look amazing at night!
