I hate ‘soap operas’ as a general rule, but I started watching a few odd episodes here and there when I got back from Spain so that I wouldn’t ‘lose’ my Spanish.

Gotta say, it’s REALLY confusing when you jump into a Mexican soap half-way through and you don’t know all the back story!

(Also if you like telenovelas, check out ‘Gran Hotel’! Not Mexican, but I got hooked on it when I was in Spain- I think it’s like Downton Abbey but… better.)

@AnaA:  I used to watch a few back in 2004, but the one thing I hate is that unlike American sitcoms or soaps they do not run on for season after season. I get all attached to the characters and then it’s over. Blah. My favorite was Te Voy Enseñar a Querer. 🙂

I am white, but speak enough Spanish to follow the conversation.

@AnaA:  It cracks me up how dramatic they are!

I’m Mexican and I don’t watch them. No one in my family does either. No one speaks Spanish, so…haha that kind of makes it impossible.

I do love Gael Garcia Bernal and I’ve heard he first got his start out in telenovelas.

I saw them in Mexico, but not as a child, since we were not allowed to watch such “garbage”. I don’t watch them that much anymore, but I loved “La Reina del Sur” which is based on one of my favorite books. As of late, I love Colombian novelas – Las Munecas de la Mafia and el Cartel de los Sapos were hilarious.

@AnaA:  Omg I was so wrapped up in that show. Then it ended and I was mad. After that I said forget it! lol! But me and FI still watch 12 Corazones if we catch it on TV. 🙂 That show cracks me up.

@AnaA:  She is nuts. But what cracks me up is how the ol’ fat ugly guy always holds out for the hottest girl and then she declines and walks off stage. LOL!
