We are also planning a mexican honemoon. We are planning on staying at the Barcelo Maya Palace. I've done lots of research on Tripadvisor.com and read tons of reviews. You can also get on the Barcelo website and see the virtual tour. For the price, I really dont think you can beat it! I am so looking forward to our honeymoon!!!
My sis and BIL are going there beginning Tuesday until Sunday next week to celebrate their 15th anniversary..going to the Fairmont Mayakoba.
they even have 2 room accomodations and are bringing their kids..and sending them to kids club sometimes so they can enjoy some proper "couples' time".
It's truly gorgeous there..I've been to Mexico several times and loved it always.
I LOVE MEXICO! Having said this...if you think Mexico can be a weekend getaway for you guys since you live so close, save it for an anniversary visit or something. If budget is an issue, Mexico does have one of the best deals. If not, try doing something you don't get to do - after all, it's your HONEYMOON!
I'm having this dilemma myself, I LOVE Mexico so I want to go there but I've done these trips before so I want it to feel extra special for the honeymoon. But they DO have the BEST SERVICE in Mexico...and you have a LOT to choose from.
From many major cities, you can get an awesome package to many beautiful resorts there.. www.vacationexpress.com .
I've used vacation express several times. One time stayed at Moon Palace, other times at Fiesta Americana Coral (?)..but both were gorgeous. All inclusives with air fare.
They run weekly specials and hot specials. You can really get a heckuva hotel for your $$. You'd be surprised! Plus they have a hotlist of honeymoon hotels with upgrades, etc.
Just hopped over there (can't zzz..just got in from seeing a Christmas tree lighting!) and saw they have a 4.5 star hotel ALL INCLUSIVE from 107/night...RIU Palace Las Americas hotel. Looks fantastic!
we are going to mexico for our honeymoon we're from california. We're going to cancun side tho.... cause it was super cheap... we got our deal from bookit.com, all inclusive4.5 start hotel w/ flight and hotel for just over 2K for the both of us.
i would consider thailand too, everyone I know that has gone has loved it (and i think i know at least 5 different people that went seperately). and it's cheap.
My husband and I just came back from our honeymoon in Mexcio. We stayed at the Royal Hideaway Playacar and WE LOVED IT!!!! It's an all inclusive, adults only resort with 6 relaxation pools, 6 restaurants, and all the wonderful service you could imagine from the staff. We are excited to return there, hopefully within the next 2 years. You can look them up on Tripadvisor.com.....there are some great video, pictures and information about the resort there.
We honeymooned at an all inclusive on the Mayan Rivera. It was the best time ever! The resort is here:

It was bliss!
We went to Zihuatanejo from Seattle because the flights were cheaper and MUCH shorter than going to southeast asia. We'd also never been before, and because we could fly Alaska Air we used airline miles. We stayed at the Amuletto boutique hotel (fewer than 10 rooms) and it was FABULOUS.
I'll be writing posts on our honeymoon for WB soon, but please feel free to check out my photos here: http://www.numine.com/gallery/view_album.php?set_albumName=zihuatanejo
I CANNOT SAY ENOUGH ABOUT EXCELLENCE RESORTS ISLA MUJERES! It was fantastic!!!!!
One of the bees went there..then my hubby surprised me with our trip and I loved it!

We got married 9/6/08 and went to Cozumel, Mexico from 9/6 to 9/12. We booked the Sabor Wyndham but got upgraded to the new Aura, which is what I had hoped would happen. The hotel was absolutely beautiful, we had a swim up suite which we loved! It was all-inclusive and had no problems with getting food or drinks whenever we needed. The 24 hour room service was great, we ordered something every night. It was off season so not all the restaurants were open but it wasn't crowded either. The only downside was that we felt the effects of the incoming hurricane that was heading towards Texas and alot of the water sports and activities were cancelled. My husband was hesitant about even going to Mexico but he is sl glad we did. He enjoyed it as much as I did. We definitely want to go back sometime with friends. The hotel was a little over $1000 and we used my dad's airline miles for our flight so that helped out alot. We spent a little over $400 just for tipping, taxis and souveniers.
My daughter and her fiance are booked for their honeymoon in May 09 for the Rivera Maya at El Dorado Royale an adults only resort. Amazing place... it looks like anyway! They didn't want to go to Cancun but the travel agent suggested this place. They will stay in a Casita swim up room. Looks very romantic but very expensive in my opinion. I'm sure they will have lasting memories!
agree, if you have a long honeymoon, try somewhere you couldn't get to for a weekend! i
as an AZ bride myself ... I agree. Mexico just doesn't have the same appeal even if it is an all inclusive resort. Don't let the agent push you into something you two won't LOVE.

We are getting married in May 09 and are in the process of planning our honeymoon. Our Travel Agent is really pushing Mexico because she feels it is the best price for the amount of luxury. We live in Arizona so I feel like Mexico can be just a weekend trip. Any thoughts on honeymooning in Mexico???
