We are! We’re going to playa del carmen next April. FI has been to the west coast, but not Cancun area. His family, however, loves the Mayan Riviera and has been a few times, so they highly reccomend it.

We stayed at Excellence Playa Mujeres adults-only all-inclusive in Rivieria Maya. It was amazing, like paradise. I’ve been all around the Carribean and this has been my favorite, but it’s mostly the resort. We got a rooftop pool suite which was awesome. We went snorkling at an island, toured the Mayana Ruins, and jumped in Il-Kil sinkhole.

AliceBxx:  we are; it will be our 4th time. Previously we’ve stayed at the Excellence Riviera Cancun, the Valentin Imperial Maya, and the Royal Playa del Carmen, and for our honeymoon we have 10 nights in a penthouse suite at the Gran Bahia Principe Sian Kaan, and then 7 in a swim-out suite at the Excellence Playa Mujeres. Can’t wait!

We spent 5 nights at the Valentin Imperial Maya for our honeymoon, and it was awesome. The best vacation we’ve taken yet. We also did a tour off the resort one day to see the ruins at Coba.

I second Excellence resorts too. I just came back from my honeymoon almost 2 weeks ago at the Excellence Riviera Cancun and loved it.   We have also stayed at the Dreams resort twice before and that is a close second for us.  We have stayed at the Pacific and Caribbean sides and like the Caribbean the best.

AliceBxx:  We got married & honeymooned just outside of Cancun- Privilege Aluxes on Isla Mujeres. It was an all-inclusve (but they do have a breakfast only option too), not adults only, but they don’t really have anything for kids so there weren’t many at all. It wasn’t crowded at all and we never had nay issues finding a beach bed or palapa… We loved that it was only a 15 min. ferry ride from cancun, the island was very safe feeling, and the hotel was on the beach but also right next to the main trip of town so it was so easy to get off the resort and do some exploring (via golf carts!)… The service was amazing, the staff was really great, grounds were gorgeous, rooms were great! We are trying to go back as soon as we can- no joke I dream about going back at least once a month!

Isla Mujeres from the plane leaving Cancun

Privilege Aluxes view from our room’s balcony (even had a hot tub facing the sunsets!)

View from our balcony hot tub! Our main issue with cancun was that it was too party oriented/americanized, and the hotels are facing the wrong direction so you get sunrises and not sunsets- this resort was facing cancun on the mainland so you get sunsets over the ocean!

Cafe Del Mar at the resort- the beachfront cafe- and beach beds/palapa’s with beach side service!

The rooms were all huge! We got the honeymoon sweet and it had a spacious living room, kitchen, bathroom, bedroom, and a giant balcony that could have fit 20+ ppl… They also have rooftop suites with plunge pools but it wasn’t in our budget…

Beach bed and beachside service!

I’ve spent time in the Mexican Riviera as well as Baja.  I really hate resorts so I can’t be of help there, but it’s a gorgeous area!!!  We really liked the town Puerto Morelos, halfway between Cancun and Tulum… pretty small and sleepy and not touristy, but great beaches and swimming etc.

Definitely go to Tulum and Chichen Itza, and swim in a cenote!!!

I’m not a resort girl either, so we’re staying in a small boutique hotel, but the inlaws stayed at Riu and said it was excellent (and they are picky people, lol)
