I don’t think I’m a normal girl. I know most little girls look forward to this day all of their lives. I feel like I’m having a panic attack. I’m nervous to walk down the aisle in front of all these people. Just thinking about it makes my heart beat faster. I hope my voice won’t shake and I pray that I don’t cry.
Anyhow, I got engaged a month ago and I am still in shock that I’m engaged. lol! I need to start planning. I need a Venue! Please chime in on where you got or are getting married. I tried Vizcaya and Deering Estates. They are booked! Any suggestions?
What about engagement pictures? Where should I take them?
What did you love about your wedding or a wedding you attended?
Ahhh!! So much to do! My head hasn’t stopped spinning. : ) Help!

Hi! You ARE normal..,,its a scary thing…I freaked a bit until I started getting things done…since you sound like you like the same “type of places” as I did (old spanish, romantic feel, outdoor space, coral rock)…here are my suggestions.
I’m getting married at Villa Woodbine in Coconut Grove…Its the Vizaya “feel” but half the price (its about $7000 to rent for a Saturday for just the reception plus food/drink). Its mostly outdoors so you have to pick a month that the weather wont ruin but its SOOO gorgeous…I’m attaching a pic. If you meet with Janet (the free coordinator there) tell her Heather from the Philippines (I just moved here) sent you…she and I got along great and she is ON TOP OF IT!
I also looked at The Cocoplum Women’s Club…pretty reasonable though their planner wasnt good about getting back to me so I decided on Woodbine.
Another suggestion (if you have a smaller wedding group) is Red Fish Grill – also has a GREAT outdoor space and is crazy “reasonablly priced”..something like $17,000 for up to 100 ppl I think? nuts! and its on a beach and indoors at the same time…gorgeosus! I’d also check out The Rusty Pelican…though they only book certain months of the year I think.
Good luck! Email me if you’d like more advice, I did alot of looking!

Hi there! Like Heather said, once you start getting things done, you won’t be as freaked out. Our wedding will be at the Doubletree Ocean Point Resort in Sunny Isles. Definetly research your venues. I searched for months and narrowed it down to 5 places when I went to Miami to take a look at them in person..I live in DC now but both my FI and I are originally from Miami.
As far as engagement pics, we will be flying out to Miami in November to take these. Our photographer is actually meeting us at the Doubletree since they have a private beach area and we’re taking pics there and at a nearby pier.
Hope this helps.Nice to see some activity on this board

HI!! Congrats on getting engaged. Like the other bee’s said after a bit you’ll get into the “swing of things”. Before you know it you’ll be an expert! lol I looked at a few places and it really depends on how many peole and the feel you want for your wedding. Some other places to look at or at least area’s to look into are:
The links: Over in the key biscayne area
Koubek Mansion: The are part of UM and rent out for parties
Coconut grove or coral gables women’s club’s
Westin Colonade and or Douglas Entrance
Jungle Island: It might sound cheesy, but some of the pictures you can get there are beautiful!
The Hilton or Sonesta Hotel
Mayfair Hotel in the Grove
Fairchild Tropical Gardens or Miami Beach Botanical Gardens
Palmetto Bay Village Center
Doral Golf Resort
The Biltmore Hotel
The Fire Tower
Eden Roc Hotel
**There are tons more, but I hope this at least gives you a start! Good Luck. : )

Ahh! With such a long post I forgot about some places for engagement pictures. Some places might be Vizcaya, The Miami Art District, some around coconut grove or the beach. Maybe Bayside. The Gables also has some great places listed on the community/city website. It will list streets where ther are some nice little gates or differnt bits of architecture made out of coral.

we did a low engagement shoot at Robbins Park in Davie.
It really is so beautiful there by the robbins cottage, there is a really pretty grassy field with a white fence and beautiful banyan trees.

I got married at the Coral Gables Country Club (reception) and Saint Patrick’s Church Miami Beach (ceremony). My awesome and budget-friendly photographer was Farnot Photography. Check out my blog for more: https://mytimelessmiamiwedding.wordpress.com/2016/06/05/10-wedding-day-tips-i-wish-id-known/

2ndchance: it costs about $300 to have a photo session at the Biltmore. I will say that I took some informal photographs there with an amateur photographer (my sister) after my engagement, but for my wedding day as we were having a formal session and I was wearing my wedding dress and veil etc, and I was with a professional photographer, we paid for the permit and had a 2-3hr session. As for UM, it is not free to rent but about $1500 for students and more for the community. I will be sharing my reviews of venues I visited on my blog, mytimelessmiamiwedding.wordpress.com . I wil llikely post my excel doc with prices, size of the room, etc

mytimelessmiamiwedding: I meant just to sneak over to UM and take some engagement photos 🙂 good to know about the Biltmore fee. Thanks!

In addition to the Biltmore, also took engagement pictures at Vizcaya with an amateur photographer (my sister. She has a really great SLR camera and a good eye) and we just paid for entrance. I also took free engagement pictures in Key Biscayne on the bridge where there is that beach/park with a great view of the Miami skyline.
Other great places include the Railroad museum (you do have to pay a fee to take photos), several spots in Coral Gables (Miracle Mile, Venetian Pool, several parks and gates around the city). Merrick Park could be nice too but crowded, same with Lincoln Rd and Miami Beach in general.

There is an awesome list of Florida venues here! Both Vizcaya and Deering Estate are on this list but there are some other amazing ones as well. http://new.bestmiamiweddings.com/wedding-venues-locations/
As for engagement photos, any of these locations would be amazing as well!

It’s normal, you know. Since childhood, I’ve dreamed of having a grand wedding like in fairy tales. What I love the most are wedding gowns. I remember, I would occasionally search for them and would stare at each for quite some time.
Oh, yeah! Venues! I love to imagine the place of my wedding, its design, motif and all. My man should give me that once in a lovetime dream-come-true wedding!
And now, that’s about to happen next year…FINALLY!
I am now busy checking out the best Miami wedding venues since I’m done choosing my gown design. And guess what? I’ve found one great site that suits my dream wedding venue. Ever heard of bath club wedding? Yeah, I would really love to try this one. I’ve seen some fantastic photos and read positive reviews about it. We’re actually visiting the site next week.
You should visit their site: http://new.bestmiamiweddings.com/venue/the-bath-club/. It’s great!
