HE was apparently rushed to the hosipital by paramedics early this afternoon. They found him not breathing at his home. I'm holding off on saying he's dead until there is more information.
TMZ is only a semi-reputable source, I agree, but perezhilton's website is down..
What?! I just read on MSNBC and they still say he was "rushed to the hospital." How sad. He has seemed so personally tormented these last few years.
MJ was such a part of my musical "soundtrack" of growing up. When I mention him to my students (K-5th grade) they always say "ew" (because all they know are the news stories) or, "My mom likes him." I can't imagine a generation of kids growing up not knowing his music!
Just posted at MTV.com - not dead, but in bad shape: http://www.mtv.com/news/articles/1614735/20090625/jackson_michael.jhtml
Well, cardiac arrest and not breathing, plus they performed CPR at the scene and nothing...short of some miracle the man is dead.
it's on cnn that the AP is reporting he died. crazy. also, news hits WB fast these days.
@ amandopolis - I know! Usually my sister is the first person to know about these things, but I actually beat her to the punch today.
I think it's sad, especially since it was so sudden and unexpected.
Like I said in the other thread, I used to be a huge MJ fan. The man surely was a musical genius, even his personal life was a mess. His music (along with watching cartoons) was the way that I learned to be fluent in English -- much more effective than English class in school, really.
And it's so random! I was reading earlier today in some website about him choosing the outfits for his next round of concerts in Europe and how one of the outfits was supposed to be covered with 300,000 swarovski crystals, and I thought "Wow, that's so weird, but so totally MJ", and then not two hours later I read he had a heart attack and died. RIP :'(
I heard about this! So sad! He was such a talented person with a turbulent, tragic life. I hope his family is OK.
So sad! I agree erin, I've always loved his music! May he rest in peace, and dear Farrah also - what a sad day in the entertainment industry.
Sad. Maybe now he can actually get some peace. Michael's music will always keep him alive in some way. :)
I'm saying a prayer for his family & all his hardcore fans... how sad for them!
While I do like his old music, am I the only one who didn't forget that he was a shady, alleged child molester?
For the past few years, when his music comes on the air, I've changed it. He made me sick.
It is sad for anyone to die, don't get me wrong, & I hope he, his family can finally have some peace.
So sad and crazy! There have been rumors that MJ has been sick over the last several months but this was so sudden.
I havent had electricity all day (literally from 9 to 5) so I thought my FI was busting me when he sent me a text messge.
I'm kinda sad!
I remember that stuff too Quiche. My feeling today is that he has his god to report to now...so I prefer to think about the great music and entertainment he gave us through the years.
I'm with you on that one Quiche. I'm much more saddened by the death of Farrah Fawcett. While Michael Jackson did make great music, that time of his life is long over and the rest was just weird. Even if he didn't mollest children, he DID dangle an infant over a balcony for cripes sake. He has finally met his judgement day. It is a little irritating to me that people are acting like they love him so much when nobody could have given a poop about him two weeks ago. Yes, they liked his music, and I think it's fair to say he was a great success there, but otherwise? Nadda.
Well, some people have good memories of being fans when they were younger, and it's pretty shocking to face the sudden death of one of your childhood idols. Yes his personal life was a mess and who knows if the allegations against him were true or not, but I prefer remembering him the way he was when I was a fan, when his music brought smiles to my face.
Yeah, there were some things that may have been questionable (or the media made it seem so, at least) but the world is definitely less one amazing, legendary artist. I don't think I actually believe it yet. :(
I suppose if you are remembering him that way Azula, it's one thing. However, most of the people on my facebook that are posting messages about it are too young to have grown up with his music per ce. Heard it, or heard their parents listening to it, but they werent born until mid-late 80s, early 80s at best so by the time they were old enough to know him, he was really no idol.
I too am in agreement with Quiche and JoesWifey. Born in the 70s, I grew up on his music and know it all too well. However the fact that he was an alleged child molester far outweighs his music, as awesome as it was. The media and pop celebrities are turning him into a martyr. It's sad his death is overshadowing Farrah Faucett as well.
I grew up with him, and I always tell my students that, yes, he seems a little crazy, but he's a musical genius and SO MANY popular artists are influenced by him. I even had a student doing a Michael Jackson-type dance to some Latin music. I asked him if he knew where the dance moves came from, and he didn't know. So many aspects of music that we take for granted wouldn't exist if it weren't for Michael Jackson & his work.
I certainly don't think he was a saint, and it's horrible if he actually harmed anyone (and it seems he did). I don't know the definitive answer to that. But I do think that he was fallible and human like anyone else. I think people are complicated, and I think it's possible to contribute something of value to the world and be deeply flawed at the same time.
The first thing I thought upon hearing the news was that I hope he can finally be at peace.
I'm still in shock! What a sad sad day. I can't believe he died just a few miles away from here. His music and talent will never be forgotten! My heart goes out to his kids and his family...
