Unbelievable!! What are your thoughts on this and the Quiverfull way of thinking? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Quiverfull
It's crazy. I hope this time she has healthy baby. I was shocked after the last issues that they have chosen to do this again. She is no spring chicken.
Is she really?!
My thoughts: That is A LOT of kids, but honestly, they seem to be raising them to be productive, caring members of society. I actually really like the way Michelle speaks to her kids, and I can only hope to be that calm when my LO comes in the spring!! I will say that with the complications that they had with the last one, and the fact that she is getting older, it should be time for them to pass the babymaking along to the next generation.
We just had the debate over IM's at work. I say as long as I'm not paying for them, let them have however many they want too. The kids seem to be productive members of society, it looks like they're doing a good job with them.
Let's think of J names they haven't used yet!
Personally, I think they’re crazy for having so many kids but if they’re able to support them (which is seems like they are) then they’re not really hurting anyone else. I’ve watched the show on occasion and all of the kids seem well rounded and responsible. MUCH more so than most children these days. Whether that’s just a cover for the show, I don’t know, but they do seem like they’ve got their shit together.
I wonder what childbirth is like for her, though. I mean, there can’t be much pushing involved after you’ve already had 19 other humans come out of you, right?
I am in shock! She's only 42. I thought she was much closer to 50.
@LGenz: hahahahahahah, Jasper? Will the go with the Twilight craze?
Wait, hasn't she had multiple of C-sections? I thought you weren't supposed to have more than three?
@bpcmarj: Shockingly they haven't used Jacob yet
I mean, as long as they can support all those kids...I don't know, that just seems insane to me! Didn't they say on a past episode if she got pregnant again there would be health complications?
Oh dear god, after this baby she will have been pregnant for a total of 15 YEARS. That almost seems like torture to me and I've never even been pregnant.

This article has more info on like the health issues and special doctors and how she plans to give birth.
my thoughts are have as many kids as you can afford, and clearly they are affording therm just fine. But that thought proecss stops once the health of mom and baby start becoming jeapardized. She has had 18 very healthy kids, and one very premature baby with very serious pregnancy-related complications. At that point I'd say quit while you are ahead and be happy you have 19 healthy kids.....
so crazy! i cannot believe it haha - my husband is one of 13 kids and i thought that was a lot!
i always laughed at this

I don't think they really consider it a choice. They don't believe in birth control, so if she gets pregnant then she gets pregnant.
@LGenz: :D I'm actually surprised at how many popular J names that they haven't used! They don't have a Jacob, a Jonah, a Jared, a Jane, a Jessica, a Janay, a Julie, or a Jeremy.
I'm always surprised by Jinger. They don't seem like the type to go with the stripper names (no offense to anybody with that name)
I agree with the the other posters who say that if they can afford them, then it really makes no difference to me. She seems to be taking all the necessary precautions with this baby (special doctor, rest, planned c-section) so I hope everything turns out well for them.
Considering how complicated her last pregnancy went, her age, combined with the total number children she already has, I say this woman should stop having babies.
I think what irritates me about this is that if these children were all PLANNED. And if they PLANNED on having all of these children, why couldn't they adopt at least one child? There are so many children who need homes across the world already and if they have the means to support these many kids, why not consider adoption?
Does this have something to do with their religion?
I can see how someone might justify the Quiverfull way of thinking, but I generally disagree with it. Yes, the Duggars seem to be able to provide for all of their children (obviously having a TV show helps with that) and the kids seem to be sweet, caring kids, but not all families would be able to provide for that many children (emotionally, physically, financially). I think that a strong motivation for the Quiverfull way of the thinking is to populate the world with more humans that have the same religion.
It seems like the children haven’t ever questioned their religion or even been exposed to other religions.
So I watch a lot of TLC (guilty pleasure), and the children in Sister Wives seem to explore their religion and are allowed (and encouraged by their parents) to make their own decisions about how they choose to live their life when they grow up. I feel like the Duggar kids don’t really have (or realize they have) that option.
Yeah as long as they can afford to raise and take care of them, it doesn't bother me. I've watched the show and the kids are very respectful, funny, and surprisingly normal. However, I was still hoping they would stop after Josie after the serious scare with her. It does sound like this is one of the largest gaps between kids though. Hopefully it's a healthy, normal pregnancy and they stop at an even 20!
I'm really surprised too, at some of the names they haven't used - Jessica (they have a Jessa) and Jacob in particular.
I vote for Jack or Jacqueline.
If I remember correctly, Michelle Duggar was on birth control early in their marraige (maybe after they had the first few kids - not sure on that). And then she got off birth control and they started trying for more kids. I believe she had a miscarriage and blamed the birth control.
In one of the early shows she and Jim Bob would give talks/presentations to different groups and churches around the country, tell this story, and endorce the quiverfull ideology.
*This is just from memory, so I might have some facts wrong.
I swear to god I was just thinking last night when I saw a commercial for their show 'man, she hasn't had a baby in awhile!' haha go figure!
I have nothing against them. As long as they are providing a loving home for the children, why does it matter to me how many children they have?
@KateByDesign: They weren't really planned. The Duggars believe that children and pregnancy are a gift from God and God's will, so they don't believe in birth control. Thing is, she's going to keep getting pregnant until menopause, which could still be ten years away for her. It doesn't seem fair to her future child(ren) that they'll probably be born with more and more complications.
I mean, I'm a Christian, and yes pregnancy is wonderful, but science is pretty cool too, and God gave us that as well.
here is the thing: I think they are CRAZY.
but it seems like truly are able to support their family. They have creative ways of paying for things, and I am SURE they are getting paid to come back and do season after season of the show.
all the people in their family seem happy...so I guess i can't knock them.
@Crabbabs: Actually they have been exposed to other religions. The oldest son that's married has stated that he is not practicing being quiverful. They plan to have no more than 3 children I believe they said and the quiverful lifestyle promotes 6 or more.
I hope she has a healthy pregnancy. Her age combined with her previous complications can't be good.
@Crabbabs: I remember them saying exactly that. She was on the pill after having their first child and then when she went off of it and got pregnant she miscarried. They blame the miscarriage on birth control.
Jinger is my favourite. She's spunky.
I'm really surprised at everyone's answers! I thought a lot more people would be against the Duggar's, but I'm happily mistaken.
I agree with everyone else on here. They seem like such a loving and caring family who all work together to take care of the group. I never wanted to watch the show because it sounded absolutely ridiculous, but I love them and their family dynamic. It makes me soo sad that much smaller families can't seem to figure it out, but this very large family acts more respectful to each other than most people in general.
I can see how some people would be concerned about them not questioning their religion, but in all honesty - they're happy. If it ain't broke, don't fix it.
Oh my goodness, I hope she doesn't have horrible high blood pressure problems, have a stroke during labour, and die. Obviously I hope the baby is healthy, too, but I remember that she was in such danger during the last pregnancy that they had to deliver Josie so early to save Michelle.
You're right, there are a LOT of unused J-names out there!!
Oh, and to mirror most of the rest of you Bees, I love the Duggars! Their kids are so lovely and it always blew me away how well behaved and kind they were (esp compared to Kate's 8 on TLC).
I think it's a little nuts but understand that they are following their religious beliefs. I think both Bob and Michelle seem like great parents and their family seems very tight knit and loving. I've been very impressed with the children's attitudes (or lack there of) and behavior. It seems to work for them so more power to them!
I love the duggars!!! They're so weird I just can't get enough.
@Crabbabs: I think they were on birth control when she got pregnant the first time and she had a miscarriage because she was on birth control.
@kala_way: I know that the religion doesn't practice FAM or the like, but it's really easy to avoid getting pregnant. As we're TTC, I see that I'm fertile a short period of time a month. It's a small window that you either can conceive or don't. If she really wanted to, she could have avoided those days and not been pregnant. After this many kids, she knows her cycle.
I'm more surprised by this pregnancy because it's so irresponsible in terms of her own well being and the baby's after giving birth to a very premature baby beforehand.
@AnneTossy: I was thinking the exact same thing last week! It's been a while since the Duggars had a baby. I wonder when the next one is going to be?" And she was already pregnant at the time!
@mwitter - Good to know! I missed that episode I guess. Thanks.
