I am recently engaged and my fiance is in the Navy. We’re looking to have a small ceremony (less than 15) somewhere outside in Michigan. Preferably somewhere that we can have the reception and then a nice dinner after.. All outside or at least the ceremony outside. I really am not the kind of bride that wants to make a fuss over anything and I hate the idea of 100+ people watching me.. I just want something outside thats gorgeous that’s my dream! But I don’t want to spend an arm and a leg for it especially since we dont plan on it being a huge deal.
Please give me suggestions!!!!!

Not exactly outside but check out the Frederick Meijer Gardens in Grand Rapids. They have an outdoor barn venue, and outdoor waterfall venue, and you can actually get married in the huge beautiful conservatory (since planning an outdoor wedding in Michigan would make me so nervous). They really do a great job with weddings under 40 people, and the conservatory costs $550 to rent most of the year.
You also access to all the botanical gardens and scuplture park for you and your guests, which makes for some very pretty pictures.

Thank you guys! I guess I should have said that I kind of want to try to stay somewhere on the east side (preferrably Southeast if possible). I mean if we can’t find anything then we’ll travel further but that’s where I am trying to look now.

I’d see about Lake St. Clair MetroPark or McRay Harbor. Both have gorgeous buildings with huge windows and Lake St. Clair views. The MetroPark is in the small park (so it should be pretty cheap), and has been recently revamped. It’s beautiful (trees, wetlands, the lake, beach) and the building is a little more rustic. It has a nice stage above the room where you could get married/have a head table on and is isolated from other people, the windows are at least 180 degree view. McRay Harbor is set up high so it feels like you can see over the lake for miles, probably about 120 degree view, it is fancier looking but has a separate dining area downstairs that other folks may be using.

@ohhbitty: Victoria Wedding Chapel in Waterford has a gorgeous outdoor setting right by the water. It only seats 50 max, so that would be ideal for your small wedding. I don’t think there is a reception space, but I could be wrong. For a small-ish reception, you can rent the private room at Shark Club on M59. That’s where we are having our rehearsal dinner!

Bay City has a boat line that does weddings on it and caters. You could do a boat tour and have it all done on the boat. (nice tribute to Fiance being in the Navy)
Check out the photo section, they have some with the tables set up.

What about at Stoney Creek metro park… They have a beautiful wooded area for weddings, the beach, and gazebos… All would be beautiful in my opinion
