What part of the Metro Detroit area were you looking for? Your budget will have a large factor as well. If it's not too personal, how much do you plan on spending per head at the reception? There are plenty of fantastic venues to pick from.
We're looking at anywhere except the East side- downtown, Oakland County, Ann Arbor-ish, that's all acceptable. We don't have an absolute budget, but we don't want somewhere ridiculously expensive. I'd say somewhere around $100/head is probably the upper end of what we'd want to spend.
That budget would certainly give you a lot of options to play with! My dream venue would have involved anything from the Henry Ford estates or museums.
The Henry Ford Museum would be unique and ranges between $56 to $92 between their two lowest menu options. You could also check out their ballroom although that has a high room fee so that might not be worth it.
Meadowbrook might be nice as well. I would scour some other wedding websites and see what reviews you can find for golf courses in the area.
This is the brochure for the Henry Ford Estate if you're interested in that:

This is the link for information pertaining to weddings at The Henry Ford Museum, Greenfield Village, Etc.:

What about the Masonic Temple? I think there are a few old theaters that look gorgeous for weddings as well. I can't remember the names though so that doesn't really help...
@FloretteLiz: Thank you so much!
Just for comparison's sake, do you know any super affordable venues in the area that don't come off as 'cheap' or 'low-budget'? Although we can afford most of the nicer venues, we'd also love to save some money!
From the limited research I've done, it seems like you pretty much get what you pay for, but you never know...
We are going with Stone Creek Banquet Hall in Flat Rock. It's super affordable and quite pretty.
We had our reception on 9/3/11 at the Ford Conference and Event Center in Dearborn (it's across the street from Greenfield Village). The website is: http://www.cec.ford.com/
The food was from Opus One and it was awesome (we've gotten a ton of complements on it). The staff were super-helpful and accomodating. We couldn't have been happier with our reception.
We did consider Stone Creek (it was nice, too), but ultimately, Ford won out.
@MissBananaBread: Did you end up finding a venue!!?? I didn't realize on the 2 year board you were the one looking for venues in metro detroit! Hope the search is going well--- keep us updated!!

Quick, Michigan people- please tell me everything you know about venues you've used, or have been to, or turned down for some reason. We're looking for somewhere that holds 150-400 people in the Metro Detroit area.
Thank you!!!
