Friday will keep your budget down. I live in upper michigan so I'm not too familar with down state. What area do you want to be in?
Have you checked out Regency Manor, Shanandoah Country Club, Roostertail... etc?
There are a lot of good ones that are lower-end as far as pricing
American Polish Cultural Center in Troy
San Marino in Troy
Monte Carlo in Utica
Pie Banquet Hall in Southfield
to name a few.
Belle Isle Casino...ugh.. their customer service is the worst.. I'd stay away!
Also, you'll find that a LOT of things you're going to need are already booked, not just venues. I'd wait until 2012, if you want first dibs on a lot of vendors. :)
Also, check out this site...

If you aren't picky on vendors I say go for a 2011 wedding. :)

So.... I've been telling my fiance that we need to get to planning and he's just now seeing that I was right! we're currently stuck with either a friday or sunday wedding because venues are BOOKED! The only other option is to wait until 2012, but who wants to do that?
We are on a tight budget and can't afford a super extravagant price tag. I looked at the Belle Isle Casino today and it seems doable, but they only have a few fridays and sundays left for 2011.
Do you have any suggestions on other NICE rental facilities? What about the day of the week
