Darling Husband swears it tastes normal to him, but whenever I reheat leftover chicken in the microwave, it acquires this absolutely disgusting taste that makes me want to gag. And I know it’s not my imagination, because there have been at least a couple times where I’ve forgotten to avoid microwaved chicken, started to eat it, thought it tasted gross, couldn’t figure out why, then remembered that I had microwaved it and that microwaved chicken tastes gross to me.
Anyway, I love to cook dishes that will last for a few meals, but I end up avoiding everything that includes chicken because I know it will taste gross after I reheat it. Does anyone else notice this terrible taste? Any suggestions for reheating methods that don’t make the chicken taste gross (or dry it out?)? Also, vote in the poll!

You have to use a reheat setting, like soemthing that has a sensor or heats at 50% or something…I totally know what you’re talking about though! If I use one of those settings and don’t let it get too hot, then it tastes fine 🙂

I hate the way anything tastes out of the microwave…Mr. 99 and I haven’t used one in 5 years and I can honestly say I don’t miss it, at all….

Do you reheat it on a plate or in containers?
I know when I reheat food in our tupperware containers in the microwave they ALWAYS end up tasting like soap to me. If I do it on a plate, there really isn’t any soap taste.
As for other reheating methods, try wrapping the chicken in foil (to keep moisture in) and putting it in the oven for a bit. It’ll take longer to heat up, but will retain it’s moisture and hopefully not make it taste gross to you.
We did this with leftover brisket from the weekend and it stayed SUPER moist and tasted great.

It’s not s bad if you reheat on the stove or very slowly in the microwave (on 50% power, stir often).

I hate, despise, loathe microwaved leftover chicken. I won’t eat leftover chicken because of this. I also avoid chicken dishes if I want to have leftovers, because I either won’t eat it or it has to be something I can eat cold. Darling Husband thinks I’m crazy. I’m so glad to see I’m not alone.

I hate leftover anything, pretty much. Even heated in the oven it never tastes the same…

I actually do not even own a microwave. Not allowed in my house. I don’t think it is healthy and I think it makes everything disgusting and sad. 🙂 I just heat on the stove or in the oven!

Microwaved chicken always tastes gross. It is significantly less nasty if you put plastic wrap over the plate to keep the moisture in BUT it’s important to not put it in for too long or else it’ll be rubbery for sure. I usually feed leftover chicken to my dogs so I don’t have to deal with it!

Depends HOW you reheat it.
Chicken has a tendancy to get really dry if reheated wrong, but I keep mine moist by reheating it on a plate (Or in a container if it’s like in a gravy or a soup) and cover with a moist paper towel.
