I’m thinking of having Midnight Blue dresses for the bridesmaids and Black suits for the groomsmen.
Is this a big no-no?
Has anyone done it before and have pics to show how the photos turned out?
I think it’ll be okay, but my fiance is appalled that I would put dark blue and black together.
I would like to keep the black suits because the groomsmen already own black suits and I don’t want them to have to spend $$ buying another colored suit.

It’ll depend on how dark the blue is, and what type of fabric. Something shiny would probably look better even if it’s very dark. But basically as long as it’s not a super dark midnight navy, you *should* be alright. If it’s a super dark color that you have trouble even telling whether it’s blue or black, then it’d look like you just didn’t realize they’re not the same color.
I’ve had people rent this color vest with black tuxes. It doesn’t look bad. If you had the guys wear something in the blue with their suits (vests and/or ties), I think it’d tie together fine.
Bottom line, I probably wouldn’t do it because I’m OCD, but in both my personal and professional opinion, it could look good if done well. So if you really like it, go for it! It’s great of you to want to save your guys money.

talk about putting dark blue and black together? My bridesmaid dress was navy blue silk on the bottom and had a black velvet bust (it was 8 years ago)! the colors were not my taste nor was the dress but it really doesn’t look bad at all. The blue next to the black looked just fine! The men also wore black suits. I think if you asked stacy and clinton(from what not to wear) they would tell you to go for it because black is a neutral and goes with anything.. even BROWN!

It is my opinion that a traditional black tuxedo is seasonless and it is timeless. It is so classic that it will match any evening wear! The men in my wedding will be wearing tux’s and the color I’ve picked out is dark navy blue. I justthink a tuxedo matches anything.

Black and blue are a fine pairing. If you want something a bit more relaxed, go with a charcoal gray or a gray color for the suits. This would soften the midnight blue.

My BMs are wearing navy and the GMs are wearing black tuxes with navy vests and ties. It looks great IMO, but Im biased. The groom is wearing an ivory vest and my dad is wearing all black. I dont have pictures yet, but you can tell the difference betweem the vest and tux. EVERYONE gave me slack about how it was not going to look good together…they were wrong AND admitted it. The black and navy blue (girls wore pewter/silver shoes) looks phenom..elegant and very classy. Plus, dark blue (vs tiffany blue or royal blue) is the newest thing. I feel like Im ahead of the trend!
