I am not sure about their pricing, but I went to a birthday dinner at Salute, in a private room, and it was really nice.  Pescatore or Serafina may also work. I  know you asked for midtown, but I also went to another group dinner at Uva on the Upper East and it was also nice. Again, not sure on pricing for any of these options.

Good Luck!

We looked at Centro Vinoteca in the West Village. I don’t remember what they charged, but they were definitely one of the more reasonable options we found, and have a really pretty upstairs room you can rent out and pretty good food. Also i think Mrs. Hamster had her rehearsal at Dean’s – pizza/Italian in the east 40s, so that could be worth checking out too.

@mrsesq:  We’re looking at Trattoria Trecolori in Midtown West.  They have a private room upstairs.  Their buffet menu starts at $30 and their sit down starts at $35.  2 hours of open bar is an additional $30 per person (but if you’re just looking for wine, it could be cheaper).  This doesn’t include tax and 20% gratuity.
