cdpslh913059487:  Yes, they need to go inside an envelope. They would never be accepted at the post office, and even if they were, they would never make it through the machines.

Read the website of the postal service here you live, because USPS is not doing hand cancellations anymore; bumps and lumps like the knot  may cause problems ( you may have to slip that invitation inside a folded sheet of cardstock) and then insert into an envelope so you have a flat surface- all of which increases the weight and perhaps your postage.

umm yes you would have to put them in an envelope to mail them…you can’t mail them like that

You may even have to do a padded envelope since they aren’t doing hand-cancels anymore. But definitely do not show up and just try to mail them as-is!
