Did you talk to them about why they were recommending a 10, if that size was WAY too big in the sample? I know sometimes fabrics can stretch, but if it was way too big, it seems like they might just want to make more money on the alterations. Most bridal shops are honest, but I would just confirm with them on the why, before placing the order.
Look at the sizing chart and make sure that your biggest measurement fits in whatever they're recommending. I am a street size 4/6 and the Mikaella 10 fit me almost perfectly. The sample was a good fit, and my dress was much tighter, but fine. Also, I'd highly recommend going elsewhere for your alterations. I had a terrible experience with my bridal shop. If you have time to find another tailor, go there!
I hope I'm not too late. I just saw this post. I also am a size 4/6 and I purchased a Mikaelle gown. The bridal shop ordered me a size 10 as well. It was too big when it came in! I had to have some major alterations done. I would suggest ordering a size 6 or 8 depending on the style of dress and how big you are on top. If I had ordered the 8, I still would have had to take it in.
My dress is altered now and I love the way it turned out, but don't get a 10!
I have the Mikaella 1367. I'm a street size 6 and the Mikaella size 10 was just a tad too snug around my rib cage and back...I decided to go with the safe route and get a 12. Although the dress will need more alterations, I feel better about being able to breathe!
Can you visit at least one other store to get their take on sizing?
I bought a Mikaella sample gown (1159!!) and it's a 10. I generally wear a 4/6 street size, but I have an average to slightly-larger than average chest area and it fits perfectly. Particularly since it's strapless and I won't have to tug at it all night.
I agree with a PP who said to maybe go back to the store and ask about the sizing, or perhaps you can speak with a customer service rep from Mikaella about it.
@ ErinMarguerite do you mind sharing what bridal shop? I am getting mine in the DC area.
I am a size 0-2 street and I ordered a Mikella 8 which did seem awfully large, ask to see the sizeing chart Mikella gives them and measure yourself against it. Thats what I did (the lady thought I was nuts but oh well!)
I know when they tell you dres size, the size fits the largest part of you. Either chest, waist, or hips. So if you're 2-4 street clothes and have a large chest, you'll need to get a larer size to fit that area and then they take in the rest. I,ve neve experienced Mikaelle dresses, maybe they run larger
Hi i just now saw your post. I just bought my mikaella dress yesterday and i fit almost perfectly into a size four and i am a size 3 in street clothes. My consultant told me my measurement and showed me the size chart and what she recommended.....well she was right, my bust is the only thing that will need minor alterations done.
I would check out another bridal place because they dont seem to be that helpful to you and want to take your money. In my opinion if you are a 2-4 in street clothes you should be able to fit into a 4 or 6 perfectly.
Hope this helps!

I found the dress of my dreams and am ready to order however I have some concerns about what size dress I should be ordering. I tried on a size 10 in the store and it was wayyyyyyy to big. When I asked the store which size I should be ordering, they said a size 10. WHAT? Why? In street clothes I am a size 2-4. I do understand that wedding dress sizes are extremely different but this dress I tried on was tooo tooo big.
Anyone have any experience with ordering Mikaella dresses and what the best fit would be for me?? I want to make as little alterations as possible.
Thanks!
Brooke
