Are you talking like a flower girl and ring bearer? I've never specifically heard of a mini bride and groom..
@babyboo: No, I mean actual miniature bride and grooms in addition to the RB & FG.
I am sorry. I have no idea what you are talking about. I have never heard of this.
Like I said, never heard of them (apart from some people saying it to mean FG and RB)! But from the way you explain it I do imagine it would be a little odd..
What? I never ever ever heard of this...is this a regional thing?
somtimes i find it tacky but sometimes it can be sooo cute. i'm not crazy about the idea of lil bride and groom and not really sure what purpose they serve but i cant help gushing over the really adorable ones that are dressed up so cutely
@rachaelrobin: It's mostly an ethnic thing, from what I've gathered, but I've been to Caucasian weddings as well where there are, literally, two children dressed in a mini tux and bridal gown.
@bells: Yeah, I can't decide if it's cute or just highly reminiscent of a child cult or something...
File this under the "things I had never heard of before weddingbee" thread. :)
Ha! :) FH says it's a good thing most of you haven't heard of it--they freak him out, too.
haha im with @rileyjane Def needs to be posted in the things i have never heard until wedding bee!
@statutory grape did they say why they had them or an explanation??
@Allyser: I was afraid to ask. I'm guessing it's just a "cutesy" way to get more kids involved...
lmao! i am laughing so hard right now!!!! wooooooooooooooooooooooo... *composes self* okay... lol.... i think its totally creepy and i have never heard of it until now... and i busted out laughing hehe! and fi agrees its a bit creepy
They def look cute but if i wanted to include more kids i would prob just have more than one FG. I think it is a little weird having a veil and all. If you take the veil away they would look like a normal FG and RB!
I also have never seen this and also think it's kind of creepy
Add me to the list of people who have never heard of this at all.
creepy yes. But I'm stuck on the why...
I have heard of it and it's very much done in the South. I must say though...that I think it's creepy and not at all cute. I don't get the purpose of it at all and the kids that have the "honor" are usually very uncomfortable...at least at the weddings I have been to that have had the miniature B&G. Much better to give them another task.
Yea. I've seen pictures of this. I think it's kind of strange. I don't understand why someone wouldn't just have more flower girls and ring bearers. Or junior bridesmaids and groomsmen.
i think its sad that just because people arent used to something they call it "creepy" "weird" "ridiculous"
whats so creepy about a little girl with a veil on the back of her head? i think its disrepectful to call other peoples cultures creepy
I've never heard of this either. my first reaction to seeing the picture is "but why?".
@Statutory Grape: you said it was an ethnic thing. which ethnicity is this common in?
@bells: while i many not agree with people using "creepy" and "weird" as it might offend some, I get why they are saying it. Anytime a little girl is made to look like an adult woman I find it quite disturbing (Toddlers and Tiaras anyone).
@babyboo:i agree, but does the veil by itself make her look like an adult woman? because i do see regular FG with full makeup on..
@bells: I don't agree with full makeup on anyone under the age of 18, anyway, so that's pretty much the issue for me. Maybe if you or someone else explained the significance, people could understand the culture/tradition more. Just saying.
Hm...I've definitely never heard of this. Seems a little..random to me? Like, what's the point?
I was one in the '90s for a relative and LOVED IT! I was so excited in my little whilte dress and viel and I still have my fake bouquet I got to carry. If I can find the pictures, I will post them. My relative did not have a FG or RB, just us in our total adorableness.
It is a southern tradition (we're from MS) and it is kind of outdated..like beginning of the '90s
I was one when I was little and I am having one. It is just a glorified flowergirl. When I was a child, my aunt wanted to seperate me from the other young girls in the wedding so she gave me this special position. I still dressed like a little girl. My dress was modest and wasn't made to look like a grown woman. I had a veil, similar jewelry, and similar bouquet to the bride. My JB will have a white dress with bling on it, a bouquet similar to mine, and a tiara (I'm not wearing a tiara).
The people who have JBs reasons are if you have a "junior court" (junior bridemaids, junior groomsmen) then why not have a junior bride and groom? My junior bridesmaid is walking down the aisle with her brother. Yes, it is a way to add more kids to a bridal party. Just like I am having two Bible carriers (another made up position). My wedding party is huge and so is my guest list
.
I've never seen this... I don't think it's common for my family/group of friends. I think a pp is right - the creep factor is that these little children are being dressed up to be adults. Do the minature bride and groom have a first dance and all those things too?
@dorsay: No. At least not in the weddings I've been to. Like I said in my PP, the JBs and JGs that I've seen wore fancy white dresses and a tux like the groom. They dress in children's clothes. They understand that they are not getting married.
Interesting....but not what I would ever choose. I've lived down South almost my whole life, and I've never heard of this tradition. The two kids in the picture previously posted do not look that happy to me, lol. But again, interesting....thanks for sharing.

I'm just wondering what everyone's thoughts on the miniature bride and groom thing are. I personally find them a little unnerving for some reason, though my cousin had a totally cute mini-bride at her wedding...so I think it really depends. I guess it's a good way to get more kids involved, if you're from a large family. Are you having them? What do you think of them?
