That is sooooooooo cute! I think it's a great idea and a wonderful compromise!
those are adorable! love the idea of little cakes. is your man good with mini cakes? we're doing cupcakes, but mini cakes would also be great.
SOOOOOO CUTE!! If that is the compromise, that works!!
Go for what you both want!
@thefuturemrsjewell - haven't run the idea of mini cakes by him yet
my mom runs her own wedding cake business, and i have helped her out a bit, so i have an opinion on this one :) cupcakes are always a hit and they are so cute!! in order to keep the cake cutting tradition, you could still do the cupcake tower but have the top layer (or top 2 layers, if you want to save the top for your anniversary - is that common? we do it in my family) be a traditional cake that you can cut :)
OttawaBride - I suggested that to the Mr and it didn't seem to fly. He says cupcakes are for b-day parties and has been trying to talk me out of a cupcake tower.
i love the mini cakes!! very cute! we are doing cupcakes, and i think the mini cakes is a great compromise, they are adorable & i'm sure delicious. i think it's great!
They definitely look so cute! As a guest, I would be so excited to get my own little cake!
Have you priced them yet? I was watching Amazing Wedding Cakes on WEtv and there was an episode where they made those. Based on the amount of labor it took to cover them with fondant, I would think they are very pricey. I imagine the cakes on multiple stands would be more budget friendly. Great ideas though!
No I haven't priced them yet and am worried that I will be heart broken b/c I really like them - and I too get excited over small things a mini cake all my own - how awesome!
Ohh they are so cute! I am right there with you about loving cupcakes and mini cakes.
Have you thought about if the future hubby is really really wanting a traditional cake you could do a dessert bar kind of thing with mini cakes or cupcakes?
I'll cross my fingers for you that pricing them turns out good.
I loved the mini cakes idea too! But when I priced them out, they were so much more expensive than the cupcakes. :(
Those are great. i absoluetly love them. I am using cupcakes with the small cake on top but you've just given me a new idea.
I love cupcakes too!
Have you thought about doing a cupcake tower with a cake on top of it?
Or - instead of cutting the cake - just feed eachother a cupcake!
Those first two pictures are beautiful! Yes, maybe you could compromise and have a bigger top layer to cut just like you see there and have the mini cakes as a type of dessert buffet. If your fiance really wants to have a traditional cake - and that's what he reallyreallyreally wants - I'd give in though, and have a small dessert bar alongside maybe? With mini cakes and cupcakes.
But gosh, if my man has any request regarding the wedding, he gets it immediately, because he cares about so little ;)
I am loving the mini cakes!!1 They are like little petifours! LOVE petifours! I say price them and run the idea by your fiance. ;)
I had the idea of having one main cake and having replica mini cakes to give away to guests. Unfortunately when I priced the mini cakes, I knew it was just too much. Although these are Canadian prices, it kinda gives you an idea of how much more you're looking to spend. Cupcakes start at $2.50/each while mini cakes start at $7. Sigh, they're just so labour intensive!
My aunt had mini cakes at her wedding, as well as a small cake (larger version of the mini cake, but still pretty small). They cut the small cake and passes out the mini cakes, which were a hit! We had cupcakes and a cake at my wedding. We cut the cake, but served the cupcakes first. (We also had a groom's cake made in another flavor, and it went quickly!) I like the pictures you found, and I think the idea is a good one if your budget allows. Seems like a fair compromise to me!
I like the idea of mini-cake. We're doing cupcakes and having our own cake to cut/save for anniversary. It's way cheaper too, for 100 cupcakes, plus our cake only $135.
i love the mini cake idea and if you have it boxed it would be even better since most guests are stuffed after dinner. It like an edible favor!
I adore mini cakes as well, I wanted them too originally...but they're EXPENSIVE. They're very labor intensive. While its an excellent compromise I think you should get pricing before you get your heart set on them. Of course, the price of the mini cakes might convince your FI that cupcakes are a better option!
I started off by wanting the mini cakes - then came to the realization they are labor intensive hence expensive, so thought I could do the same idea with cupcakes, but have come back to the minis b/c I love the clean lines, simplicity and elegance.
Anyone know of an affordable pastry chef in the Myrtle Beach area that does beautiful work?
***UPDATE***
The mister said NO to the mini cakes. He says they still remind him of the cupcakes and he wants to go traditional. :o(
Instead of an alternative groom's cake can I have a bride's cake?
Do any of you have pictures of any funky traditional cakes?
Would you maybe be able to have mini cakes/cupcakes as dessert at your RD? And you can totally have a brides cake if you want to, its your wedding so do whatever you want!

I LOVE CUPCAKES, with that said my FI is trying to talk me out of a cupcake tower. He's more traditional and wants the whole cutting of the cake. I like fun and funky plus cupcakes can come in a variety of flavors.
Here come the mini cakes - I think it's a fair compromise and how lovely would they look plated solo and we could still have the option of different flavors. Plus to need for cutting fees.
I also like the seperate cakes on different stands - gives a more traditional look and I still get the variety.
What do you think? (Just happened to find pics with my wedding colors; pink and green)
