As an event planner, I’ve worked with several couples who have done mini-moons and personally, I think they’re great.  It gives you a chance to relish the moment before going back to real life.  It’s great if you can go straight to a honeymoon, but if not– at least take a little time to relax and enjoy being married before you’re back to the daily grind.

My best friend took a mini-moon after their wedding and took a longer honeymoon later to the tropics after her now husband had finished his grad schooling.  They definitely needed the break after the wedding festivities!  They just took a weekend trip to a vineyard with a bed and breakfast type place and loved it.  I think you will want a little break after the wedding, IMO.

That’s what we did. We went to Vegas for a few days after the wedding just to get away and have some “holy shit we’re married!” time to ourselves. Our big official “honeymoon” will be in April or May of next year to Europe, 1.5 years late but whatever!

That’s what we’re planning on doing! Either a cheap last minute cruise or a long weekend in NOLA, and then saving up for a honeymoon next year to the Mediterranean. I’m super excited for both 🙂

FI and I are going on a huge trip this summer which we planned before we got engaged, therefore we will not be taking a traditional honeymoon.  We will do a “mini moon” and go away to a cute B&B or an expensive hotel in the city on the Sunday evening after our wedding.

Our ‘minimoon’ was actually our honeymoon. We traveled within the state for 5 days to a cute little resort only 2 hours away. This decision came after checking rates for jamacian vacays (DH’s pick) & realizing how much they actually costed. I look forward to planning that trip in the future, but it just wasn’t in the finances right after spending several thousand on a wedding.

I started a similar thread awhile back, but can’t post the link for whatever reason. If you’re interested, check my profile. There were several girls who posted there describing exactly what you’re talking about.

We are considering a mini-moon also. Our wedding is August 25th so we’re thinking about taking a few days to vacay somewhere local over labor day weekend; and then in January taking the actual honeymoon – that way I can use my PTO days pre-wedding for planning-type things, and he does’t have to miss work – he works as a construction foreman so is super busy during the summer and laid off over winter. Just makes sense for us. 🙂

Seriously we loved our mini moon. We just went away for 5 days to a city several hours away, but it was worth it.We felt like newlyweds!

That’s what we did! We spent 3 nights at a B&B in Vermont (we live in MA, so that’s really close).  It was lovely. I’m glad we did it.

We’re taking ours before the wedding. I go back to school 10 days after the wedding so a honeymoon right away isn’t possible (I think a trip before also helps relieve some of this planning stress). We are going to Chicago to visit family, sightsee a little, then off to Michigan for a music festival for 4 days. Our real honeymoon will be in January, when we take a cruise.

We’re doing a mini-moon, 4 nights in Chicago, leaving a few days after the wedding, then the big honeymoon 3 months later. It’s easier on the bank account plus we can go rrreeeeeally far away for the honeymoon and not have to worry about rushing back before work starts missing us.

We’re doing a mini moon right after the wedding, just to have a few days to recoup and relish that we’re married, and then plan to do a full honeymoon in autumn or winter when we want to “get away” from our weather. 🙂

I don’t really understand what the difference is between a mini moon and a honeymoon. From what I gather, it’s usually short(er), at a location not so far away, and budget friendly? but who says a honeymoon needs to be a long, budget blowing, far away destination? I’m not trying to be snarky or anything, I really don’t get the difference and am curious.
