Due to many things all happening at once this past year, we are thinking of taking just a 3-night trip to Monterey, California, just two hours away. When we get married, I will have been at my new job only nine months, and because of the way my vacation time accrues, I can’t even request the week off for the wedding/honeymoon until I have it all saved up, in May. We are also planning to buy a new house that should be completed just around our wedding day. In addition, we’re planning on a two-week trip to Asia in September 2012 for my grandmother’s birthday and to meet his grandmother, so a trip on our one-year anniversary for just us is also not possible.
I know I’m far from the only one in the situation of having a short, local, or delayed honeymoon, but it’s hard to read the board and see all the amazing trips you all are taking! So, anyone else out there a little sad and jealous?
(Don’t get me wrong, I’m still way excited about taking four days off to bask in our new marriage and I know there are plenty of people who can’t even do that.)

YES!!!!!! We don’t have money or time to have a ‘real’ honeymoon and it makes me so sad. At my first wedding we took 3 days in Key West, which was about 2.5 hours away from where we lived… so it was nice, but not that official honeymoon feeling.
We’re planning on taking a couple of days to visit some breweries around VT and New England and saving up for a trip to Ireland next year, but I definitely get jealous and sad. I know we’ll have a great time, and we’ll be able to pay for a couple of days away…. but when I see my cousin posting pictures from their 13 days in Fiji or hearing where the brides I work with are going it’s just kind of a bummer.
I feel your pain 🙂 We’ll have amazing trips, too – without the drama of packing for that long, ha!

I actually don’t want to take a honeymoon right after my wedding. I have so many important people coming to see me in my wedding and I’m really excited just to spend time with them.I travel so much anyways that it’s not a big deal that I don’t get to go away with FI. There will be other trips, but when are my relatives and family going to be in my city?
I think I’ll plan a big honeymoon the spring after my wedding when the temperature is better at my honeymoon spot.
Don’t feel sad about a honeymoon at all!

My husband and I are going on another delayed minimoon…. We are going on a “take two” of the minimoon we took right after our wedding, now 5 months afterwards. The historical inn that we went to was running a special, so we decided to take advantage. I am hoping to make this trip a little fun and exciting for the husband, especially since its right before his birthday. I had an idea of for each night we are there, taking a gift bag of fun stuff for him to open. Maybe one day it’s totally goofy like squirt guns or other little fun games. The next day could be sexy lingerie. Any other ideas?
