I haven’t ever seen that or heard of that and I met with a few different florists.  Maybe that is in bigger cities like New York or Chicago?

It probably varies by region, but I interviewed four different florists in my area (Wisconsin) and none of them mentioned a minimum order.  Beware:  florists that specialize in weddings will probably charge a lot more than other local florists, and the florists you find in magazines and on wedding websites will probably all be wedding specialized.  Check the phone book and shop around before booking with one.

That doesn’t surprise me. I mean, they can only service a few brides a day, if that, depending on the size of the floral shop. If one of those brides only spends $400 when they could have gotten $2,000 from another larger wedding, it makes  sense to have a minimum to stay afloat.

The minimum varies by florist, as some florists specialize in event design and bigger weddings. We are having a smallish Friday wedding, so some florists were more willing to work with us. In the end, I am only going to order the bridal bouquet and groom’s boutonniere through the florist. My mom is a florist, and so we’re going to do the centerpieces, pomanders and ceremony decor ourselves the day before.
