The Wedding Shoppe in St. Paul is great!  They have tons of dresses in plus sizes however it might not be as much of the boutique atmostphere you are looking for.  However I loved my experience there and the staff treated me very well, and you can’t beat the selection.

I would avoid Mestads in Rochester.  I’m a size 8/10 and I couldn’t get most of their samples on.

@crisy003:  The wedding shoppe carries a ton of designers, but they don’t stock all of them at the store. I wasn’t super thrilled with my experience there. The plus sized section is not in the main bridal department, but across the street in the alterations building so it feels a bit like getting banished going over there. There was also a guy barging in and out the back door which is right in the trying area with toilet paper which kinda ruined the mood. The area to the left in the picture is a door that goes directly outside which is where he was coming and giong.

I had a really great experience at Our Shop in Stillwater. My consultant managed to pick my dress on the fifth pull and she was really great at asking the right questions about my wedding to get me an appropriate dress.

ETA I’m the same size as you, street size 12 and I still had to go to the plus size section at the Wedding Shoppe.

@crisy003:  You can see a lot here on their website but you will need to call ahead to see if they have it in store if you fall in love with the particular dress. http://www.weddingshoppeinc.com/

@crisy003:  I was a size 12 in bridal dresses.  Even though I was trying on plus sized dresses, I still tried them on in the main shop, so I don’t know how they make the distinction as to who tries dresses on in which building.

I second the wedding shoppe.  I was working in Minneapolis for a while and went there – tons of selection for plus sizes!

@crisy003:  I only took pictures of the dress I chose at Our Shop. As you can see the pedestle I was on was right in the main room where the dresses were. When I went to pick my dress up I used a more private one. They really take fantastic care of the dresses there. There are no shoes beyond a certain point and they make everyone wash their hands before touching the dresses. There are even robes in the dressing rooms. I would not hesitate to buy a sample gown from them as they keep their dresses pristine.

@ummsgna: They actually asked me my street size when I made my appointment, so I assume that’s how they determine where you go at the Wedding Shoppe. I think the dresses in the room I was in started at a bridal 14 or so.

@crisy003:  I second the Wedding Shoppe!!! I got my dress there. They’re super nice, and I got my dress right off the rack (and they gave me 30% off!).

@crisy003:  Thank you. My dress is from Justin Alexander’s Sincerity line and it was less than some of the dresses I liked at David’s Bridal, totally in budget 🙂 My consultant was Latona and I really enjoyed working with her. She even remembered me months later when I went in to pick up my dress and ended up helping me instead of the girl I was assigned.
