Sorry, I can't help you too much--we got ours in Anoka County and my husband didn't hyphenate his name--I just changed mine to have four names with no problem. I would probably call the state and see if there is a way for your fh to change his name. It's strange that your friend was able to do so in Anoka County. I would say just come up here and get your license in Anoka County but I'm sure it would be a pain for you to drive up from the Southdale area. Good luck!
We applied for ours in Ramsey County. If you would like more info on that, pm me!
@Chachacha: Thanks! I am really beginning to think that Hennepin clerk was just wrong! We went to the Anoka one on Central a few days ago (we actually live pretty close to there but were in the 'burbs for errands) and had no trouble, and no wait at all. Woo!
@MissChirpie: thanks! I looked into that too but we didn't have the requisite X numbers of pre-marriage counseling.
But if any other MN brides find this thread, definitely go to the office on Central in Anoka County because it was totally dead and very easy to do. I even changed my middle name without a problem.

Hey MN brides - have any of you:
1) applied for your marriage license in Hennepin County, and
2) had a groom who wanted to hyphenate or combine his last name?
K and I went to the Southdale service center yesterday to apply for the marriage license, and we were both going to change our last names and be the MyLast HisLast. However, the clerk said I was allowed to become Jduck Middle MyLast HisLast, but K had to keep his name as K Middle HisLast.
I talked to a friend and she said Anoka County let her and her husband change their names right on the form and hyphenate... so I wonder if it's a county thing or if the lady at Southdale was inccorect.
