Hello lovely ladies! I have a bit of a conundrum. When we first started wedding planning, my fiance wanted to wear a grey suit, which I love. We agreed that our wedding colors would be mint green, silver, and ivory, and the bridesmaids would wear mint green dresses. Now that I’ve finally found the perfect dress, my fiance has informed me that due to pressure from his grandmother, he and his groomsmen will now wear classic black tuxes. I’m now afraid that the black will look too harsh next to the mint green, and the green will look washed out. Here’s an example of the dress color and the tux:
Do you think the bridesmaids dresses will still work, or do I need to find a new color scheme?

I’m terrible at knowing which colors go together, but I really, really love that mint green!

I’m a sucker for gray, so my opinion is skewed…

I think it would look just fine, though I agree a grey suit/tux would make things ‘lighter’. Is grandmother paying for the wedding? If not, then perhaps he can sit down with her and explain to her that wearing a grey suit/tux would go better than wearing a black one and thats what BOTH of you want…etc. etc.

I think it would look great, but I’d put the girls in black shoes. If you want to tie it in even more, have a couple of anemones in their bouquets.

With your lovely mint bridesmaid dresses, gray suits would look so much better than black. I just love your mint bridesmaid dress color so I’d hate for you to get rid of them! Maybe you could sit him down and show him a collage of the colors and then after seeing the color palette he’d agree that he should stick with gray.

I agree that the gray would look better, but I don’t think black would look awful! You could tie it together by giving the girls a black sash, or a black ribbon on their bouquets and/or black shoes?

Black tuxes are fine but grey would be nicer

Also, is your FI’s grandmother paying for the wedding? Or for the tuxes? If not, I’d ask your FI, “You and I are the ones getting married. Why is your grandmother’s preference being given more weight than mine?”

I thinbk grey suits would look better. I feel like mint green and black has an 80s feel? I am a weirdo though haha

I loved that black looks fine, but a charcoal grey would look nice. Pale grey and mint green would feel too washed out, IMO

@Hippos: totally agree. They don’t seem in agreement… the mint is to light, playful, and fun. The black tuxes imply a certain level of formality that doesn’t match those insanely pretty dresses!

I agree with others that black would look ok, but grey would look so much better and this shouldn’t be granny’s choice…..hold your ground!
