I haven’t MC’d personally but am 8 weeks so have been reading a lot. All I can say is that everything I have heard and read is that brown blood is completely normal. If the blood is bright red and enough that it’s like a period that is cause for concern. Brown is old blood so, it could just be coming out now but be from something that occurred a week or two ago, even from having had sex. But of course it never hurts to call the dr. Just thought I’d chime in and try to ease your mind based on what i’ve heard! Good luck!

@tampalove35:  I have never miscarried (that I know of), but I have had spotting several times in 2 of my pregnancies. Nothing was wrong and everything turned out fine. So try not to worry. If you’re going to miscarry there’s nothing you can do to stop it and it would not be your fault in any way. Worrying won’t help. It’s probably fine. Be optimistic!

I wouldn’t worry–spotting is VERY common early in the first trimester!

You are probably fine, spotting is very common.  The only way to know is to get your hcg levels checked to see if they are going up adequately.  If you have been sick and are spotting the doctor will likley send you no problem.

I am only six weeks, but have had spotting brown (sometimes pink) when I wipe.  I called the dr. about it and the nurse told me that spotting is nornal during the first trimester and to not worry unless it gets heavier, like a period, and or is accompanied by painful cramping. Maybe the dr could do an early ultrasound for you to ease your worries?

@tampalove35:  Well it’s been a few years…I remember one pregnancy it being only on TP when I wiped, but it happened several times. The other I had to get out a panty liner, went to the ER a few hours later, but it stopped by the time we got there. Then the next day it happened again, but I didn’t go to the doctor. Those were both bright red blood. Then I had another time I had rusty brown blood. All were within the first 3 months. Freaked me out for sure, but everything was ok.

@tampalove35:  I had brown spotting for 2-3 days at a time every few weeks from 5 weeks to 12 weeks.  I’m now 19 weeks and everything is ok at this point.

I spotted brown/pink on and off from weeks 5.5- 17. It was awful, nervewracking and miserable. I know the stress you’re feeling, believe me.

That being said, I now have a rambunctious 2 year old.

The brown blood is absolutely fine and probably a good thing really. It’s old blood, and means your baby has burrowed in there nice an cozy.

I say don’t worry, but I know how hard it is not to!

I had brown spotting that lasted a couple of days each time when I was around 6-7 weeks. I am now 12 weeks and I heard a healthy and strong heartbeat today at our doctors office. Today I mentioned our 6 week scare to our doctor (it was my first time meeting my OBGYN instead of our family doc) and he said that it was completely normal to have some spotting in early pregnancy. As long as it’s not bright red and enough to fill a pad, you’re more than likely fine! FX that things are okay for you! I’m sure they will be 🙂

@tampalove35:  I had brown spotting on and off for about two weeks early in the first tri, and I’m at 20 weeks now! Spotting is very common, although I didn’t have any with my first. My sister only had brown spotting wth her second child as well.

Stay off of Google! I know people who have had brown blood and bright red blood with healthy pregnancies. I wouldn’t take it as a sign for anything. If you are concerned, call your doctor and schedule an U/S, but googling “brown spotting miscarriage” will only lead you to people who had m/c after brown spotting. (I don’t mean to sound harsh. I suffered two miscarriages since July and can tell you that you could kill yourself with stress that comes from looking up every symptom on the internet). Also, I know, all of this is easier said than done!
