My bridesmaids are going to wear mismatched dresses (all in the same color group–I’m sending them ribbons and paint chips to show them what range I’m looking for, instead of just saying “turquoise”).
My fiance’s potential groomsmen are mostly pretty poor–young starving college students, grad students, etc. We’re not well-off ourselves, so I’m not sure we could contribute to their suit funds. I feel weird about asking them to buy or rent matching suits for the day.
Would it be just too strange to have the groomsmen in different suits, in shades of gray and black? If not, would offering to pay for half of their rental be reasonable?

we are doing the same thing. Just want them all in black suits..different styles, shades, whatever is fine with me.
If they dont have one already, they can rent one …or borrow one…or whatever. My Fiance rented a tux last year for a wedding, and it cost him over 200.00. You could buy one for cheaper than that!

I think it would be fine if you had the same guidelines as you did for the girls. “Black, no tails, no stripes” or something.
We are having our guys wear different vests (purple, green, purple, green) because..well, because we wanted to! haha. So I obviously think it’s fine to not have matching. We also have a different number of attendants each. I don’t think the world will end. 😉

@kristophine:We had matching bridesmaids and were going to have matching groomsmen but one didn’t show–so we had my brother in the middle in his grey suit and blue tie, and then the two groomsmen in black tuxes with blue vests and blue bow ties. It worked out ok.

I think it will look great! You have nothing to worry about
