I was supposed to have a phone interview this morning for a tutoring job at 11:20. I was literally waiting by my cell phone and staring at it from 11:20 until 12. I did not recieve a phone call at all.
However, my cell phone JUST loaded a message left by my interviewer at 11:21. It is 1pm. The interviewer stated she call back, but I never recieved any phone call. She did not leave a number. I’m super pissed. 🙁
Is there anything I can to get another interview? I feel like anything I say will sound false. But, quite honestly, my cell phone was not working and I recieved no phone call even though I was waiting by the phone.

I think the only thing you can do is be honest. It sounds like you were somewhere where you did not receive great cell phone service.

@lawyerchick13: How did you get in contact with this person initially? I would probably try to explain to her what happened, but maybe give her a land line number next time.

If you saved the voicemail you should be able to get the number that she had called from. I would call back and apologize and explain what happened. That’s all you can really do. Good luck.

I don’t have a land line, and I was in my apartment which normally has good service. I’ve never had a problem before. I actually thought it might be a scam when I didn’t recieve a phone call, because I was contacted via email for the interview and scheduled in through the company’s web site.

My iPhone on AT&T does this to me occasionally. Suuuuuuper frustrating. Good luck!

This has happened to me, I think it’s due to reception. Definitely send an e-mail explaining the situation and ask if another interview could be possible… and maybe also give a phone for a landline (like if you know someone or if your parents still have one??), just to show that you are taking measures to make sure dodgy service doesn’t affect the next interview.

That stinks! I would just email the employer and explain the situation! Hope it all works out!

I had something like that happen to me. They tried to call but my phone didn’t work and they left a message but no phone number. I was so upset and I thought I lost the possiblility of having that internship. I called HR when I could and told them what happened. Luckily they rescheduled for a different day and in the end I got the job. I hope everything works out for you. Good luck!

The worst that happens is they say no when you ask to reschedule. Maybe ask if you can Skype instead of phone? I did a Skype interview for the last job I was interested in. Offter that as an alternative so that you can have something more reliable on stand-by (wireless vs. cell signal). I made a new Skype account that was just firstnamelastname just for that – do that and ask them to try to contact you if your phone doesn’t answer again.
