    Montana Island Lodge

I was psyched when I first saw the website for Montana Island Lodge.  It had everything I was hoping for.  It showcases the area's natural beauty, no cut-off time for the after party, an indoor area just in case and we could house all of the bridal party right there at the lodge for a couple of days so it would have a DW feel even though it was in our back yard.

However, after I visited the lodge I found that it was not meant to be.  Our guest estimate is 80 and that was pushing the upper limits of what the lodge can hold.  I was fine with that but once I arrived I realized what that meant for our guests.  There is no good area to set up ceremony seating so everyone would have to stand during the ceremony.  There isn't any one place to set up a reception so some people would be sitting in the lodge downstairs, some upstairs and some outside.  I'm all for casual but I couldn't see inviting the vast majority of our guests from out of state only to have them stand during a ceremony and not dine with them.  An added note, the outside of the lodge is gorgeous but inside is dated, like 80s dated not cool vintage dated.

I would recommend this to couples who want a small, casual wedding and can make use of the outdoor grounds.

We've decided to used Caras Park, in Missoula, for both our ceremony and reception.  They only charge $650 for an entire day (until 11 p.m.) on weekends.  The Missoula Downtown Association will set up the pavilion tent and walls for you, which is where we will hold our reception, and if you want to have your ceremony out in the open, there's already seating in the form of an amphitheater.  Not to mention, I get to get married in the heart of this city that I love so much!

Has anyone looked into or had a reception at the Ranch Club?  The pictures on their website looked amazing, but most likely expensive...
