We adopted our dog several months ago. He is so sweet and fully of energy. We love him so much!

For Christmas, my mom and dad gave us a DNA kit to see what kind of mix he is. We had some guesses, but there was a little suprise in the results. The test went back three generations (to his great grandparents)

He's 9-10 months old and weighs 60-65 lbs.

*I know these tests aren't necessarily accurate, but we just did this for fun.

    Wow this is a toughie...

No doubt he is mostly lab...right?  This may sound odd, but there is something in that last picture that reminds me of my sister's jack russell??  But I can't pinpoint what it is.  Maybe the eyes and posture?

He looks like he could be part Visla?

What company did you go through, and how much did it cost, if you don't mind me asking...we want to do this for our dog!

Lab, golden, and... I got nothing, there is something else though. Does not look like a put mix to me. Maybe rhodesian ridgeback? I doubt that though.

@MrsSl82be:  Ooh, hadn't thought of vizsla- his nose definitely.  Coat is thicker though, I was thinking lab-ish.

He's definitely part lab...but the face is too long...so something with a longer schnoz.

@DaneLady:  I guess I should have put definitely lab, but the nose and face shape looks like Vizla to me. I'm anxious to find out!

@MrsSl82be:  The test was through this website: http://www.wisdompanel.com/ ETA: Looks like it's $69.99 on the website. Not sure if you can get it anywhere else. Not sure how much my parents paid for it.

We used the wisdom panel insights mixed breed test. It involved two mouth swabs that were mailed in and then the results were emailed in a pdf.

We thought Vizsla too. Our guess was Vizsla/lab/golden mix. Our neighbor has two vizslas and he definately has the same slender body shape and nose. He also has the energy to match.

@heathaah:  That's actually what popped into my mind. The way he's standing in the first picture reminded me of our jack russell mix.

Not the best picture, but you can see his profile a bit better in this one.

I definitely agree with the lab and vizla comments.  And I could maybe see some pit, but beyond that, I'm stuck!

@MrsSl82be:  We did one from Wisdom Panel on our rescue.  I think it cost $70 or $80 for the kit from Petsmart and then you mail it off to the Wisdom Panel people.

I'll give everyone a hint: There are three breeds. Two have been mentioned, one I doubt anyone would guess. We were totally suprised. So one of his parents is a purebred, the other parent is a "designer dog" (hate that term, but a cross between two purebreds).

mostly Lab or chesapeake bay retreiver mixed with redbone coonhound or rhodesian ridgeback... that's my guess :)

ETA:  After looking at the second picture, I take back the rhodesian, his face it too long... I could see vizsla.

@o0olibelulao0o:  I was thinking rhodesian as well, but I'm not sure if its a mix, if it would still have the "ridgeback" or not?

@MrsSl82be:  I believe it is possible... Apparently there are even ridgeless ridgebacks... lol  just a quick google search though.

@o0olibelulao0o:  I probably could have done the google search myself, just feeling lazy today :p

But that is definitely good to know! I alway thought they were so cool with the ridge...I wonder if the ones without the ridge would be called Rhodesian No Ridgeback?

Ugh, corny joke...sorry about that. Need.more.sleep

I think I will modify my guess....one parent was full lab, and the other was part hound (beagle, daushund maybe?) and part....gosh, i don't know!

    The results:

Mixed breed DNA analysis: Guess the mix of my dog! : wedding Yadis Results

So he's half labrador Retriever, a quarter Golden Retriever, and a quarter French Bulldog!

The lab and golden seem pretty obvious, but French Bulldog!?! How crazy. The only place we can kind of see it is in the eye color and that his skin is kind of stretchy.

I wonder what the golden bulldog cross looked like! So are you suprised?

On the website they have a photo gallery of different dogs and their test results. It was was really fun to click through and see all the different mixes.

Wow! Definitely didn't see that coming!!  lol  How interesting!  I'm wondering what would come up for my dog, I know he's an Aussie/Cattle dog mix, but I wonder if there would be a surprise in there as well. lol

I would LOVE to know this for my dog.  When I adopted her I was told she was a dachshund/terrier mix, but "terrier" is pretty broad.  And I mostly see the dachshund in her long body.  She pretty much looks like a lab puppy, which is baffling, lol.

I think the French Bulldog shows up mainly in his seated posture and the stance of his hind legs. And it's definitely present in the eyes too.

    Such a cutie!

Wow! How cool... and weird! I never would've guessed Frenchie. He's absolutely precious though Smile I'll have to have this done on our dog. We were told by the rescue he was thought to be golden retriever and lab but he has a LOT of pug/beagle qualities!

You can buy a lot of the DNA tests on eBay for lower prices (they are the same tests and sent to the same facility, same names). I bought a Wisdom Panel over a year ago for our dog off eBay. I think I paid around $30 for it. As a pupy he looked like a black lab, but we say lab/chow due to hit coat, tongue, and how he curls his tail (plus Mom looked more chow). DNA said chow, sheltie and weimaraner.. oh DNA. I can see the other two, but not the weim...

Definitely something fun to do though! I've debated buying one for my purebred just for kicks.
