So I need opinions please!!!
I have a total of 7 ladies in my bridal party (5 maids, 1 Maid of honor and a matron of honor.) Initially, I had wanted each of my girls to pick a dress from the same designer in the same color. But my question is how do you feel about mixing fabrics? As in some satin dresses and some chiffon or chiffon overlay. I am having difficulty finding 7 different floor length dresses, by the same designer in the same color plum/eggplant color in the same fabric. Would it be completely tacky to mix them? I am DEFINITELY not going for an eclectic look. It’s going to be a pretty elegant affair and I want the girls dresses to convey that….
So hive…sound off :o)

I think it would be better to all be the same fabric. I also think it would be ok if 2 girls had the same dress, as long as they were’nt standing next to each other.

I’m having mix-matched ‘maids! I loved the idea after seeing a few photos. I figured it would give my girls the chance to find a dress that they’d really like and maybe be able to wear again. I only asked that it be a “fall” blue color, above the knee (but not too short), and not have any large/bold/crazy prints. I trust my girls will pick out something lovely. We did this! With different fabrics, too. Everybody looks fabulous! We just got married a few days ago, so this is the best picture I have so far. It was really easy with black–they all got them at different stores. One was taffeta, one was cotton sateen, two were satin, and one was satin with a sheer panel on the top. Two were strapless with sort of similar sillhouettes, but I thought it worked really well because most were really different.
A friend of mine had her friends pick their own in a green color and she gave them paint chip samples she snagged from Home Depot so they could match the color…maybe that would work for your purple!

I love the mix matched dresses! I have 5 bridesmaids and all are wearing different dresses same color so my Maid/Matron of Honor will stand out she will have some ivory as well 🙂

My 3 girls are all wearing different styles, in the same fabrics/color.
Have you checked out the alfred sung dresses? They have a lot of long options in a variety of cool styles.
Also, I think it’s OK if some girls have the same style.

We’re doing mixed dresses, but we went with the same fabric just to be sure that the colors coordinated well since some of the girls are wearing the same color. I wanted them to be as matchy as possible but comfortable as well, so I set the fabric, colors, and length, and they got to choose what flattered them best.

I let them use mismatched fabrics. It was TOTALLY fine.
