Wow that's so strange. If the classes are cancelled, I don't even know why he is at work! Don't risk you life just for a job!
Thats really weird!! What is the policy there for when classes are canceled. Does that mean people are supposed to report to work or not? Everywhere I've worked has a clear cut policy regarding snow.
Well, my boss is a drunk so there's a daily 'wtf' inspiring comment. Ok ok, maybe she's not a drunk but she goes and gets trashed during lunch like 3 x's a week, at least. But she's young, pretty and well manicured so no one notices... but me.
Last week she was looking for a store and she said, "is Boston a state?" I so badly want to say yes, but I told her the truth.
I could keep going but I'd be here all day. She actually didn't show to work today because she got too drunk... at the office party. Super classy.
Classes are cancelled, university offices are open. The policy for that is literally come if you can. I guess I technically COULD go in, but I will not drive in weather like this and I think its a bit bull to ask me to walk through all that and that far...if the buses were to stop running while I was downtown...thats like an hour walk home with the weather the way it is...
I've always been the type that if the weather is bad..don't tempt it.
WOW your boss is so selfish ugh, lol let him deal with his own lunch issue, forget him!
I work for a university and I am extremely understanding when our student assistant has to miss work for a class or exam. I have no idea why your boss expects a OPS employee to make it in during a snow storm. I think he is just realizing how helpful you really are :) Take it as a compliment and tell him that you've made hot cocoa and are working on your christmas cards! Enjoy the day off!
If the weather is that bad, is anyone going to really miss him while he is at lunch?
Wow. My boss has kind of a dry sense of humor. I can never tell when he's serious or when he's joking around.
well yes...because its only him and a student assistant that keep the building open...so if I'm not there...that only leaves him and we can't leave the place unattended. BUT he could close it...
I have the boss that says, "I don't care if the plows can't make it out to clear the roads....YOU figure out how to get there." During the massive blizzard that hit several years ago, one of my co-workers snowshoed 5 miles to get to work. Thankfully, my boss owns our office building and he has a fully furnished apartment on the 2nd floor. So when it looks like a huge storm is coming in, I would just stay up there. One time, the snow storm was so bad, I couldn't leave the office for a week. But it all worked out great because I was a 2 minute walk from my favorite restaurant, and beings I was staying at the office because I "had" to, I got to expense all my yummy meals to the company. lol
It sounds like he was thinking out-loud... it's not like he really wanted/expected you to come in - he was just trying to plan his day (with lunch, being foremost on his mind). I have this ongoing joke with my boss about the day revolving around lunch.... so, your post didn't strike me as all that funny. He should have closed his mouth and not said anything at all. I wouldn't worry about it - glad you stayed out of the snow!! :)

So I am a student and while classes on campus were cancelled (which has happed like one other time in my years here), he wanted to know if I was coming to work (a university job). He said it was okay if I didn't because they didn't really need me. When I said I'd prefer not to (because that would involve a mile trek in like two foot snow because I'm doubting anyone has shoveled their walk after this strom yet to catch a bus that may or may not stay running to work three hours!), he said his only concern was being able to schedule his LUNCH! OKAY...he gave me the choice of coming in or not, then seemed a bit miffed I decided not to because it interferes with when he wants to take lunch??!?
DO you have some WHAT moments with your boss? I mean really, what would you have done?
