- Wedding: July 2011
SO my mother is convinced she doesn’t need to wear anything formal to my wedding. She looks at bridal shops and all she thinks is Prom and Wedding gowns… even though we have been Bridesmaid or Best Man dress shopping. The guys will ALL be in tuxes (well, those that are a part of the wedding anyway). It is going to be in a major and super fancy performance hall. (Bass Hall) My dress is really formal! I mean, the train is freaking 9 ft long! And to top it all of my Future Mother-In-Law is wearing a super fancy dress and selfishly I would like my mother to stand out a little but being that she is the mother of the bride! Now, I do understand she is on a really tight budget. Future Mother-In-Law is loaded and my mother is reminded of that every time his family takes us on major trips and buys him gifts. (for example, HI this summer, skiing this winter and paying for our entire honeymoon plus a big portion of the wedding) And she feels so inadequate. Not to mention his mother has the time and money to hire a personal trainer and be a member of 3 different gyms, and afford platic surgery so at 50 something she has the body of a 20 year old. My mother, not so much. She looks good but gets so self consious when she sees his mother because she can’t afford or has the time to get that kind of body. So, my wedding is the last place I want my mother to feel that way much less LOOK that way. So, any ideas of reasonably priced (and I mean under $100 or as low as you can go) dresses that aren’t super formal but at the same time aren’t really matronly (she is reletively young) but can still fit in with the wedding and maybe help er whole self esteem thing? Atleast as far as the wedding goes.
This is my FMIL’s dress. She plans on altering it to be more fitted on the bottom and to get rid of the “fish tail”
