Hey bees,
I noticed some old posts about this, but couldn't find any newer ones. Is ANYONE having a non-vintage, non style-me-pretty, ruffled, anthropologie, green wedding shoes like wedding? I can not find any inspiration anywhere of modern chic colorful weddings. We are doing a cocktail style reception, sortof hollywood nightlife type thing. Colorful lighting, clean lines, etc. Anyone???
I wish there was a good blog of this stuff....
I'm tired of vintage! (I like it, but it's everywhere and just not my style!!!)
My photographer did a really pretty modern wedding recently. Here's the link: http://marywyar.com/blog/2011/07/emily-nate-toledo-glass-pavilion-wedding.html
Also, Mrs. Hippo's wedding on the blog was really modern and absolutely stunning!
Yes, we are!
I feel the same way sometimes---modern weddings are definitely not trending right now. We're getting married in a contemporary art museum (all white walls and clean lines) and having a restaurant reception in downtown chicago. Nothing vintage about it.
Yep! I think I complained about this on another thread somewhere already, ha. We're having a cocktailish type wedding as well, on the rooftop terrace of an arts building. My aim is modern, but not minimalistic. Colors are mainly gunmetal and crimson (with touches of deep purple and black).
No lace, mismatched tea kettles, mustaches, or mason jars to be seen here
.
Cannon - LOVED your photographer. Amazing!!!
Here are some pics of our reception site just for some inspiration...we love it!!:

We're looking at an outdoor ceremony and a reception at a contemporary art mueseum.
Thank goodness I'm not alone. Sometimes I feel like I don't have anywhere to look for inspiration. Have you ladies found anywhere good?
Yes we are. We are having a glam, formal wedding. No twigs or mismatched china or raffia ribbon in site. Those weddings are all very pretty but it's getting boring seeing the same thing over and over.
We are! Our theme is modern elegance and its going to be black tie. Our colors are purple, black and platinum. We want it to be hip and fun, so our focus is on food, fashion and music.
OP I LOVE LOVE LOVE, your venue!! Cant wait to see how your wedding turns out!
I like http://bklynbrideonline.com/, they feature some pretty modern weddings
@Meowkers: They are getting 1000000% boring. Pretty, yes. Boring, YES. I feel like this doesn't necessarily suit the personality of so many people that are doing it! For some people it totally works, for others, it just seems a bit forced.
@mzlouis2b: Thank you! Your colors sound awesome! I just found bklynbrideonline too and have been staring at it for 2 days!! :)
@mzlouis2b: I like http://bklynbrideonline.com/, they feature some pretty modern weddings
Thanks a lot! Now I know I am going to be up WAY too late tonight! :D
Haha OMG thank you!!!!! I'm all about modern clean lines with pops of bright color!!! On my phone right now but I can totally send over inspiration tomorrow.
@mzlouis2b: OMG thank you for the link!!!!
@AmuseMeMusically: haha um yeah! i'm not going to get anything done at work today!!!
@futuremrsmaista: This is totally true! I was love love loving the way all the ruffly, vintage weddings looked, but when I started thinking about it for MY wedding I was like, people are gonna be confused when I have pink and brown, super-girly decor when pretty much all I ever wear is simple pieces in classic black with very mimimal accessories. Plus all the "love and romance" crap when we're really not mushy-in-public" kind of folk.
It's great if that's who you are, but I'm glad my identity crisis didn't last long =)
@katiedee: agreed! FI and I started planning and originally thought our wedding would be kindof vintage hollywood glamour....then one day, we were like "wth are we doing? This is totally not us!" So we changed everything up, and went with the clean contemporary look we love. Our colors are the colors of our bedroom!
@amusememusically: just found that site the other day. Thank you!! It's great! It's one of the only ones I keep going back and looking at!
I don't like the Anthropologie weddings either. I did at one point, and they are so pretty, but now I'm just tired of them. They all look the same. We're doing "modern with a vintage twist" because I'm not happy being totally modern or totally vintage. (For example, my e-ring is a contemporary design with a vintage-looking metal. Stuff like that.) I salivate over modern, clean, crisp weddings too.
Thank you! I thought I was the only one who was finding only "vintage inspiration" sites....
Yeah, I went through the "fed up with vintage, show me something different" stage as well. Our wedding is classic- not modern, not vintage, just classic. I wish the blogosphere would show more diversity in weddings. More styles of weddings, more types of people, etc. It's so one dimensional right now. Offbeat Bride, APW, Modern Canadian Wedding, etc. are better at showing more diversity, but I don't know that they necessarily helped me with inspiration.
@futuremrsmaista: Yes!! I am late to the thread, but I completely concur -- to the point that I've mostly given up on finding inspiration on most wedding sites. Modernly Wed is sometimes useful, although they are not as consistently "modern" in what they feature as they could be (and yes, they feature plenty of anthro/vintage/shappy-chic too, sigh).
As a side note, it was a challenge for us to find a venue that had a gorgeous modern feel as well as everything else we wanted (food, space, budget). The place we chose in the end is on the softer side of minimal/modern/contemporary -- hopefully our very sleek and clean decor will work with the space.
THis post is funny!! I think the vintage-y weddings are beautiful when done well! But I'm much too dramatic and loud for something so simplistic. So I'll be doing a glam, modern wedding reception with an ethereal feel (draping, amber lighting, candles, etc)
Oh my goodness...finally! I thought I was alone! OP, thank you so much for this thread. I'm so glad to find some other ladies planning a similar style of wedding. And thanks to everyone who posted inspiration websites!
This site has some pretty and colorful ideas, not washed out and old stuff ;)

Ugh I posted yesterday, giving all of the links I've found....they aren't as chock-full of stuff like greenweddingshoes or stylemepretty, but they at least have some VARIETY! I think that's the main problem I'm seeing...it's either all "vintage" or all anti-bride/offbeat. I don't have a problem with either, but why does there seem to be so little in-between?
Let me know what you guys think! (Can you tell I have too much time on my hands?)

@modernmustard: We had a hard time finding a modern space that had everything else we wanted too. I wanted the glass pavillion that was in Cannon's link, but they wanted 10k to rent the place for ceremony and reception....not the best use of our budget. But we found an amazing banquet hall that can be made into what we want.
@MASPA : Yup, it is! We're having the ceremony there as well.
@futuremrsmaista: i worked a red cross event there earlier in the year, it's so nice! we used the bridal suite for all our prep work, definitely make use of that room!
I'm so glad to see this post--sometimes I feel like the only person who is not planning a Stylemepretty-type wedding. Ours will be a pretty formal evening wedding and our colors are black and white. We don't have a particularly modern venue, but I always envisioned my wedding as a mix between traditional and modern. Don't get me wrong, I can drool over Anthropologie-style weddings, but it just isn't really me.
I'm doing simple, classic, elegant. We are getting married in a train station built in 1912, so there is a vintage element, but that's definitely not the focus. I'm getting sooooo tired of the "style me pretty" wedding. Do they not realize that EVERY wedding on their blog looks almost the same as the last? BORING!
This was my inspiration board:

Some things have obviously evolved...but I guess we'll see how things turn out next Saturday!
@zusie: here's my dress! it's a priscilla of boston platinum collection

I didn't really get the mason jar thing before but I went to awedding thta used them and they are pretty awesome. I'm still not using them though.
@futuremrsmaista:Sooooo many links.... Yeah!
I just found http://www.modernlywed.com/. Love it.
@Zusie: I am still looking for a dress but I like mermaids/ trumpets. My current front runner is Sottero & Midgly's Adorae, I keep comparing every other dress i try on to it.
I don't think I could even pull off a vintage wedding. I am not into going to antique stores and I really love bold colors. For our fall wedding, we are using the colors eggplant and crimson. I have some things that are a lighter shade as well. My centerpieces are tissue paper flower wreaths with a vase inside of it that will be filled with water and a tealight floating on top. My other centerpiece is going to be a little glass cube with white fuji mums and purple statice in it. Going to have white linen tablecloths and then purple and red napkins as well as centerpieces to give it a pop of color, but keeping it very simple. We are going to have uplighting in the reception hall that will give it a modern look as well. Don't know if it is exactly modern, but definitely not vintage.
