So I’m on a pretty tight budget but I found these fantastic fabric bound classic books on Amazon. http://www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_sb_ss_i_6_13?url=search-alias%3Daps&field-keywords=penguin+classics+coralie+bickford-smith&sprefix=penguin+class
I plan to purchase either 3 of these each with a personalized book plate, or 4 of these with no bookplate. She’s an avid reader and also pregnant so I thought it would be something really nice to have and be able to share with her children someday.
I was debating which ones to get her and decided on Jane Eyre, Wuthering Heights, Pride and Prejudice and if I do a 4th one it would be Emma. I went on her goodreads.com page to see if she’s read any of them and what she thought of them. Turns out she’s read Jane Eyre and Wuthering Heights and gave them 4 out of 5 stars, and she also read Pride and Prejudice which she gave 5 stars…at least good to know I was on the right track. It doesn’t appear that she’s read Emma.
My question for you ladies is, do I get her the collectible fabric bound editions of the books that she’s read and already loves, or should I get her 3 or 4 books that she hasn’t read? Also, get 3 books and personalize them? Or 4 books with no personalization?

Anybody? Or do you not like this idea at all?

*SIGH* so sad nobody wants to help me

I voted , I go with the books she read and loves personalized , great for her library

I agree with @CanadianMermaid:, three personalized books she has read and loves.
Or how about giving her an antique version of Pride and Prejudice, since that was the only book she rated 5 stars. I’m thinking about omething like this:
But i have no idea if books like these can easily be found in a book store and how much you would have to pay for it. I just wanted to share this thought.

I just have to say that this is one of the most thoughtful researched bridesmaids gifts I’ve ever seen! Bravo for being such an awesome friend 🙂

I’m an avid reader and I would LOVE 3 personalized books that I love. 🙂 I’ve actually had people give me books they thought I would like (because they knew I loved reading, and generally knew the genre I liked), and I don’t usually enjoy other people’s picks.

I say 2 personalized that she has read and loves and 2 not personalized that she has not read.
Best of both worlds. This is absolutely the gift I would want if I was a BM!

Go with 3 books that she loves and have them personalized. Great idea!

I’m an avid reader and have read all of those books and I can tell you that I would LOVE to have personalized copies of them. They are classics anyway, so it would be a wonderful gift. I would go with the 3 personalized 🙂

I would get personalized ones, and probably the ones she’s already read. That’s a nice idea. I like it!!

I love the idea! I would get personalized books (3 w/ book plate). Ones that she has not read. IMO even if I read and book and love it, I don’t read it again for a long long time. But I keep the book. So I would be more excited about 3 other books from the same author that I can enjoy! 🙂

I love this idea. I would pick two books she already loves and something she hasn’t read. Emma is a great choice if she loves Pride and Prejudice.

Thanks for the feedback. I think that based on your feedback FI and I have decided to do the 4 books (the three that she’s read and also Emma) and I’ll make my own book plates to personalize them. This saves me enough money that I can get the 4th book.
@Usuki: I love the idea of the antique copy but I think it’s going to be a bit more than I’d like to spend. I actually discovered these fabric-bound books from a blog in Glamour Weddings close to a year ago and I just knew it was the right gift for her. I like that I can get 3 or 4 of them and give her a beginning to a collection.
