I have had the worst time trying to pick a Bridesmaid or Best Man dress that everyone likes. My girls range from probably size 4-12 and it seems like everything I pick, one person hates it. I finally found one that I really liked and that 3 of my 4 girls liked….but my Maid/Matron of Honor said she would look bad in the dress. I’ve been told that she’s going on these crash diets and taking diet pills because of it. I have the dress pictured below…..to me it would be hard to look bad in that dress…the ruffles/pleats hide any normal imperfections….and the model has it altered tight which they would not have to do.
I’ve already registered with the dress and picked out tuxes, ties and all that jazz for this dress. (I had to change my colors when I switched to this dress because the original color was TOO shiny for the silky material)
I love her to death and I want her to feel good about herself, she’s beautiful has no reason to be self conscious. But at the same time I really don’t want to change everything I’ve planned. What should I do??

Have you thought about letting The Maid/Matron of Honor being in a different dress in the same color. In alot of weddings the Maid/Matron of Honor is different than the rest. I think that it is sweet of you to really put some thought into her self esteem. You are a good friend.

Umm, I can tell you straight up that I would look bad in that dress, too. When you have a tummy, it takes more than tiny pleats to hide it. Have you considered going with something that flares out more on the bottom that will be a little easier to wear? It might be time to just find one that everyone will look good in and put your foot down.

@jo.lee: I have to agree. A nice A-line dress is always flattering on different bodies. I’m doing an A-line tea length dress, and it’s pretty simple and all my maids were on board with it.
Maybe you could find one with that structure in the same color and material?
ETA: Also TKS has a good point.. you could always let her have a different dress she would feel more comfortable in.

I had picked a dress with similar pleating/runching, and it looked great on one of my BMs, size 12, and only so-so on another, size 10. However, it looked kind of bad on my Maid/Matron of Honor who fit in the 14. It showed her tummy in an unflattering way. I decided to return the dresses and start from scratch. It was a bit disappointing, because I really liked the dress, but I am going with what PPs have said and try to find A-line dresses.
Here is the dress I will not be using 🙁

If oyur friend is sacrificing her health because of this dress, I would definitely let her wear a different dress. Is it really worth it to have all of the girls wear the same thing?
The other BMs will be in the one you chose, and the Maid/Matron of Honor will shine because she feels good in what she wears.

Yes I also agree that the easiest option is to let the Maid/Matron of Honor wear a different dress than the bridesmaids. You finally found something the other girls all like, so let the Maid/Matron of Honor wear a different dress that incorporates the colors within your theme.
