My FI and I have decided to wait until 2012 to get married. We are paying ourselves and want to save. My MOH is being horrible and scaring the hell out of me. She is telling me that I MUST get married in 2011 cuz the world is ending December 2012. I dont believe in that crap but she is pulling up all this "proof" on google and now I admit I am kinda afraid.... Should I push the wedding forward? Should I believe this nonsense?

You just need to ignore her.  There are a lot of things that say the world is ending in 2012 with the Mayan calendar and other things like that.  I don't think many people put a whole lot of stock in that stuff.  Have your wedding when you want to, and tell her to shut her face about it!

All I know is I better have that marriage certificate signed and processed before the oceans split or the mountains come tumbling down or whatever, lol.

Dont worry, us 2012 brides will stick together.

People also said the world was ending in 2000, remember? And a whole lot of nothing happened. Tell your MOH to shove it. That's so retarded.

It's not happening.  See this article in USA Today.

And if the world were ending in 2012, why would you worry about whether you were married before then?  You're already with him.  And it's not like you'd have time to raise a family between now and then, regardless.

I wouldn't worry about it, but if it's supposed to end in December, you're still set with your June wedding.  Just enough time to get married, have a great honeymoon and enjoy eachother before the world comes crashing down.  Sounds like great timing to me!

Ignore her. She's being ridiculous. All of those claims are complete bogus - the Mayas didn't predict the world would end in 2012, they simply didn't make any more calendars after that. It doesn't mean anything.

Someone I know brought up a good point, He said "Maybe the mayans just got tired of making it and said F*ck it we're done."

I don't believe in the end of the world in 2012 TBH. but whatever happens happens.

Even if the Mayans DID predict that... so what? How many people have made bullshit prophecies about when the world would end? Fundamentalist Christians back in the day said the Bible said for sure that the world would end in the 1800s... we're still here!

LOL  This takes the cake, in terms of bizarre posts.

No, you shouldn't freak out over this nonsense.  The world is not ending in 2012, despite what the internet had told you.  And if it did - do you really think your problem is going to be that you didn't have a wedding before it ended??

So, what if the world does end in 2010?  Will it matter if you are married or not?  You need to tell the MOH to back off!

Ignore her. People have been attempting to predict the end of the world since the dawn of time and it hasn't happened yet. People who predict it or are obsessed with it are very insecure. For what it's worth, the Dec 2012 thing actually meant a transition period, not the universe ending.

I have an idea - tell her you're just as afraid as she is about the apocalpyse 2012. Ask her to buy all of the supplies, but give her a list. Instead of buying all the bread and milk, it'd probably be better if she stocked up on finger foods, cocktails, appetizers, 50 fish dishes, 50 beef dishes, champagne, and a taco truck. For the late night of the apocalypse.

ETA: oh! And everyone knows you must have a 3 tiered apocalypse cake to ring in the destruction. You may or may not want to get a topper for that ;)

Um, seriously?! Someone already said what I was thinking you have plenty of time with a June wedding if the world won't end until December! Does it really matter how long you are married if the world ends? I don't see a correlation at all and what can you really do to stop the world from ending? Lower your carbon footprint and keep your fingers crossed is all I've got.

First of all, the world isn't going to end in December 2012. It's just impossible to predict that. Secondly, even if it does, why let that stop you from getting married 6 months beforehand?

Third, tell your MOH to get over it and be more supportive.

wow your MOH doesn't sound wacko at all . . . that aside, the Mayans were not some ethereal gods, they were people, just like us. That's like me typing up a calendar and deciding "the world will end in 2025.". Interesting theory, but no way of humans predicting. People have been saying the world will end for centuries. and it will, eventually, but no sense it worrying about it. Just live you life.

Okay, so I have to comment on this one.  If you actually read the calendar and it's translation it does "end" not that they didn't have enough room or didn't make anymore.  However, it ends because it states that at that date there would be no need for calendars because there will be an age of enlightenment - "enlightenment" is a rough translation of the phrase they use.  Knowledge, knowing, clear path, etc are a little closer.  It states it’s an end of times, not the end of the world.  They just indicate that the world will go through a major transition.  For all we know that could be the day world peace is finally made, cure for cancer or AIDS.  In no way if you actually READ the document does it state the end of the world.  Please tell your maid of honor that until she’s able to read Mayan glyphs to not discuss what they did or did not “predict.”  Maybe that will help quiet her up :)  Best of wishes!

I don't want to offend anyone that believes in that theory.  So I'll just say that I go by my own calendar, and not the Myan one.  Your friend might be able to find 'proof' for you, but there's also a ton of proof refuting all of it too.  My advice?  Tell your friend to stop talking about it with you.  And plan your life according to what works for you.

@Melissabegins   Taco truck!!! LOL  Yummy!  I like the cake idea too!

And how about an earthquake simulator machine on the dance floor!

This is the most ridiculous thing I've heard on here I think...your MOH honestly believes the world is going to end? Is she preparing for this or something? If I believed this, I'd quit my job, move to St. Thomas and have a blast the next two years.

If you do in fact believe in God/Jesus and believe what the bible says, it says “But of that day and that hour knoweth no man, no not the angels of heaven, but my Father only.” (Matthew 24:36)

And well I don't believe Jesus is a liar. I think your good. =] I mean if it happens it happens, but no one knows.
