First, I’d WAIT!!!!  Your wedding is still a bit far off, and it might be best to delay any official selection of wedding party members until after the holidays.

That said, there are a lot of things you can do.  You can have two MsOH, you can have no MOH, or you can pick your girlfriend and have your guy friend be a bridesman.  There are no set rules on having even sides or only one MOH or no men on the bride’s side or anything.  It’s your wedding, and you can have the wedding party YOU want 🙂

@AndysCraftsNmore:  I agree with @DaneLady On waiting a little bit before asking anyone.  You can also have him be your “man of honor” and your girlfriend be your “maid of honor”. Do/will the two if them get along?  Then they can work together to organize/plan any events that the MOH is typically responsible for.

you can select them whenever you want! it’s fair to give caution, but do what you feel comfortable with! my BMs are all set already, but my FI is waiting to ask a couple friends, and that’s totally fine.

anywho… i’d say make him a bridesman! i dunno, just reading your story, that was my thought.

@AndysCraftsNmore:  Do you really think he remembers that you said when you were young that you wanted him to be your MOH?  I doubt he does.

Also, how much do you expect from your MOH?  Do you want a wedding shower, bachelorette party, someone to help you select a gown, someone to help do DIY projects or help you set up the wedding, etc?  If so, I would seriously consider asking a female friend to be your MOH.  If you ask him to be MOH and then your girlfriend ends up doing all the work, she might feel resentful.  (I think I would.)

@AndysCraftsNmore:  Just be honest and explain all the duties of a MOH to him and that you think your girlfriend would be more willing to undertake those duties.

Or alternatively, make your girlfriend MOH and make him “man of honor” or something like that.  He still gets the title but none of the responsibility.
