I was curious and looked at the moissanite they have at JC Penney yesterday. They only had one ring that looked like a 1ct solitaire for over $2000–wayyyy overpriced for what I’ve been looking at online. It looked crappy because they had it in the clearance section with tons of other rings, under crappy lighting (compared to all the other bridal jewelry), at it looked dirty or something. The salesman didn’t even take it out so I could look at it, and even acted kinda snobby that I was trying to look at something without the intention of buying. There were a couple of moissanite necklaces that were pretty though..but I really want to see it in a ring! I know Helzberg has moissanite in their store, but I’m hoping I’m not going to get a snob who doesn’t want to show it to me again. I’m not completely set on what stone I want in my e-ring, but is it so wrong to want to look at the options?? Boo JCP 🙁

I hate sales people. I have the opposite happen to me. I often just want to look (DH and I are jewelers, so we like to look), and it is really hard to do because the salespeople try to attack us and show us everything. I am sorry that happened to you though. Who knows, maybe that person was having a bad day.

@cbee: The sales guy was helping another person, who I’m pretty sure was buying something, so maybe that had something to do with it. He just seemed to have an attitude about it though. I usually have the opposite happen to me as well! Instead of letting you browse, you want to yell at them to get off your back.

I heard that JCP only stocked moissanite rings a long time ago when moissanite was new. so it probably looked crappy because I think the quality of those stones has been improved since then.
boo on JCP for being snobby. I mean, it’s JC Penney for crying out loud, not Barneys! You should have told him that, hee hee. I like shopping at JCP, but I like it because it’s usually low key and not snobby.

@janie-janie: I love me some JCP! That was my first bad experience with them in my life, so I’m not too worried about it honestly. I hadn’t thought that maybe it could be old moissanite though, that’s a good point!

This happened to me in every jewelry store! I even tried to dress super classy and look a little older, and I was treated rudely in every store. No one would size my finger– they kept saying, “your fiance will purchase the ring, and THEN we’ll size it.” I ended up going to Kohl’s and having some 17 year old size my finger, because she didn’t care.
They especially got weirded out if I asked to look at Moissanite. It was like they knew I was planning on ordering online. I really think a lot of jewelers are losing out to online orders these days.
The moissanite at JCP was definitely gray/green and eerily sparkly. My moissanite from moissaniteco looks way better.
But boo to being treated rudely at jewelry stores! I’ve seriously had to stand at a counter for 10 minutes before anyone will help me.

Every time I’ve looked at moissanite at JCP it’s had that greyish green tint to it, I think they are still selling merch from before the enhancement option became standard.
I LOVE moissanite, but it just never looks good at JCP and you’re right, it’s way too pricey for what you can buy online.

I had the same exp at JCP! The moissanite they had looked awful! And she was such a bitch! $2000 for a 1ct unenhanced stone is crazy! My 1.25ct enhanced stone didn’t cost that much.
I know the Helzberg here carried them for a while and when we went to look at them, the sales lady was happy to show it to us. She even gave us the history of moissanite and it’s properties.
I hear Khols also carries moissanite, but I have never gone to check.

I saw moissanite in person (at a random little store) once before buying mine from Moissanite & Co. The ones they had were noticably yellow. My moissy looks nothing like that at all.
$2000 is definitely over priced too.
If you want, you could order a loose stone from Moissanite & Co. so you could have a look at it, then you could return it for a full refund (minus shipping fees).
